two years ago i ran my first (and only) half marathon. i loved it! i really want to run the same one this year. its in april, so i plan on following the same 10 week training program that i used last time. problem is, i have no clue when i will have time to train. DD is 8 months, and i stay home with her during the day. i do have a gym membership that offers childcare, so i could do some of my training there. but i hate running on the treadmill and prefer to run outdoors. i am home with DD all day, and then i work in the evening from 6pm to 10pm. i dont get to bed before 11:00 pm most nights. the only way i would be able to train outside is if i get up super early before DH goes to work and run before DD wakes up. do you think i should commit to the half marathon? i am worried i wont be able to find the time to train, or be too exhausted from going to bed late and getting up early. what to do, what to do...
Re: half marathon??
Adventure's In Willyland
Buy a jogging stroller and run WITH DD.
I SAH with my 5 yo and 2 year old and I ran 2 halfs last year (May and Sept). I would save my longer runs for days DH was home. I would run 3-7 miles with my little ones in the double jogger. I have a 7 yo that is in school full time and summers were hard to run because she would get tired riding her bike more than a 5k. Long runs (6-7 miles) are perfect for naptime because the girls get bored and fall asleep. Plus running while pushing a stroller (especially uphill) is an awesome workout!
Like PPs said, get a Bob and run with LO.
ETA: My local gym will allow members to use the childcare for up to two hours per day while they run or cycle outside as long as they bring their cell phones.
