Why is this board so inactive?

I'm always surprised when I click over here that there are so few posts. The Chicago area is huge; you'd think this place would be hopping! I'm a SAHM in the far south suburbs (near the Indiana border). Any other Mamas nearby?

peace,
katharine

Re: Why is this board so inactive?

  • I'm an FTM to be in New Lenx! Expecting in May. But yes, this board is kind of slow.

  • I didn't know we had a board until a few days ago. I'm from north side of Chicago. I'm a full time working mom. Pregnant with baby # 3 due in May.
  • I wonder if it is partly due to Chicagoland being such a big area.  Even though we are all near Chicago, we are still so spread out.

  • I really wish this board would pick up more. Even if it was with ideas and fun places we've taken our kids, etc. I'm a SAHM to an almost 3 year old daughter, we live near Schaumburg. And, I actually met my best friend through this board 2 years ago, when it was much busier of a board.

  • I agree with pp, I am surprised with how slow this board is!  I am a FTM living in the West Loop/River North area.  I will be a SAHM to my little man who is due St. Patrick's Day!  I plan on joining the New Chicago Mom's Group this May to connect with other new moms and hopefully make some new "mommy" friends.Smile

  • We're in Bridgeport and pregnant with our second. As a PP said, this board used to be a lot more active 2 yrs ago, which included a weekly check-in that someone would put together. Basically it was a listing of everyone on this board who wanted to participate, neighborhood/suburb, and when their LO was due or when they were born, as well as if they were team green/blue/or pink, and then finally a question of the week.

  • I really think the problem is that the area is so large. I live in a far south suburb as well, and the majority of the moms I see posting on this board are at least 1-2 hours from me. I feel like that makes a big difference when you're discussing local things.

I was one of the ones that was doing the check-in, but after weeks of nobody responding, I gave up! I'm all for it starting again, but maybe an un-official thing?

I'm im Steger (near Park Forest and Matteson, which more people are familiar with). Before moving here when I got married in 2010, I was in the East Garfield Park neighborhood in Chicago. Sigh. I miss the City!

I would participate again as well.

  • I check this board from time to time and it is sad to see how inactive it is.  I would love to attend a get together.  I have a 9 month old boy and I'm in Mount Prospect.

Thanks for the info. I looked and the south/southwest page seems to center around Oak Lawn - we're quite a bit further south still. What does starting a chapter involve?

  • I am in Westchester small suburb close to Brookfield and Oakbrook expecting my first child in June.
  • I'm usually on my BMB and only come here when I need something Chicago specific. Shame on me. I'll make a better effort to participate.

I'm a working mom who lives up in Lincoln Square.

I'm in Brookfield and due with my first in June too!!! I would love to get to know other new mom's near me. I do go to a water aerobics class twice a week in willowbrook and there are two other ladies due in my from the area.
  • Hi there!

  • I belong to an amazing moms group in Chicago for chicago moms and they have a spinoff nw suburbs group too.  I met all of my friends here.  If you are pregnant or have a child under 3 I highly recommend it.  www.cheersformoms.com

I think because this is such a huge city is why it is a slow board.  There are so many moms groups and pregnancy groups that take away from needing the bump

  • I'm a FTM in Willowbrook. I'm due in August. It would be nice to have something going on to connect with others in the area. I know once I take childbirth classes I'll meet people, but that's months away.
  • I live by midway also. Expecting my second child any day now. Always looking for mommy friends
