Wow pretty shitty comment to make about the legs being numb and not natural.

I guess we cant all be superwoman and do it like you.

I proudly have had two successful births vaginally with epidural. Plan on it with this one.

Guess what big news flash you arent any better than me because you didnt use meds. Get off your high horse.

Why so defensive? Why does your birth need a big "natural" label on it? Did you miss out on the medal? Is that where the anger comes from?

It`s rude to make shitty comments like that. The prize is the same by the way.

Perhaps you missed my tone. I don't actually give a flying *** what drugs people want to give birth to. I think every mom deserves the birth experience SHE chooses, and nothing is better than any other thing as long as she is 100% informed and supported in her choice.

That doesn't mean we should all just say "I had a natural birth" when the phrase has a specific meaning. It's being purposefully obtuse and defensive to whine about how all birth is wonderful and it's insulting when one group of women gets to say something and another doesn't.

Nothing i said was directed at you. Im not defensive at all actually. Why dont you say something to the poster who i s judging and being bitchy with the numb legs comment? I dont care who gives birth how but i dont think its fair for someone to be rude and condescending to someone else because they did use meds . Bumping mobile excuse format

My first birth was natural, a baby shot out of my vagina. My first labor was medicated, Arguably un-naturally. Semantics, but I laugh when someone tries to say my vag birth was unnatural. It and the second degree tear disagree.

THIS, Also my epi wore off before it was time to push. They wanted to give me a booster but it was too late.

No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

  • Holy cow, I can't believe how snarky some women can get when it comes to birth. I plan to have a med-free birth with as little intervention as possible. I had wanted to do a birth with a lay-midwife, but as they're not certified my insurance will not cover it and we are not able to afford the fee, not to mention DH is not comfortable with that. I am willing to compromise with a hospital birth as long as my birth plan is followed and I discuss all procedures that will be done to LO after birth with my OB. Perhaps next time around we will go with a midwife in a non-hospital birth but for now, non-medicated and low-intervention is enough for me.

My leg was numb when I broke it.  Was that natural or unnatural?  After all, you're clearly the judge of what is natural.

Gee, do you refer to is as you "natural" broken leg? Was it your goal to go without pain meds? That's a bold road.

  • My first birth was med free.  My second was with an epidural.  Having experienced it both ways, I can honestly say that it doesn't make me feel like a better woman or mother that I did it naturally.  My second birth experience was so much more positive to me.

It is likely that I will have a c-section this time.  The possibility of vaginal birth is there if both babies are head down, but I will not take any risks if one of them is breech, or if there are any other issues.  I also want to get my tubes tied, so having a c-section will allow me to get that done at the same time as the birth.  If I do have a vaginal birth, I will have an epidural again.

Definitely this. I don't know the bumps terms to be honest I haven't bothered looking. But I'd say pushing a baby out of my vagina makes it natural. And the tearing and stitches afterward would agree pretty dang natural. I had a walking epidural the first time, the only thing it did was make me itch extremely bad. I had zero pain relief. So first time around meds were of no help and weren't really worth all the needle sticks. This time around I am going to try med free and focus my thoughts somewhere more productive. But giving birth can't really be planned out since so many things could happen. Basically I'm going to wing it with the hopes that med free works out better for me the second time around than my first experience went with failed meds. AND I'm going to try my best to avoid pitocin. Major lesson learned there.

  • I don't need to be a hero. The epi was one of my best decisions last time around, so no way for me. But to each their own. Maybe if I didn't have contractions for days leading up to birth with DS I would feel differently.

ETA: just read the whole thread...holy smokes. Stop arguing over natural vs. unnatural vs. medfree and correct phrases. It doesn't matter how one conceived nor how one chooses to deliver. I think we're all after the same goal. A healthy baby in our arms. Life is full of decisions. You just need to do what is best for you and ignore the rest.

While I don't really care to argue the natural or med free thing today, I hate it when people who didn't get epidurals assume certain things about my body during labor. I wasn't numb. I got my epi, had the baby four and a half hours later, and hopped out of my hospital bed to walk over to the wheelchair waiting to take me to the family suite. The hospital requires they transport via wheelchair so I didn't have a choice.

I think it's awesome you were able to have your baby med free, but seeing as you only experienced labor one way, doesn't allow you to make assumptions about other birth experiences. Just as I cannot assume anything about yours.

Anywho. Women who go natural/med free are rock stars. But those who get epis aren't so bad either we are weenies, but overall nice people. Haha

  • Thanks so much- this really helped me understand their role. I'm looking into them now!

(I'm referring to the doula explanation and not all the other comments).

  • I had a natural birth not by choice the first time.  I would never ever ever do that again.  It was awful.

  • Agreed.  There is nothing natural about having a needle in your spine.
  • There are no birthing centers where I live either.  And I wouldn't even being to know where to look for a doula.

I am pregnant with my first as well and HOPE to have a natural birth.

Everyone I have told this to brushes me off and basically calls me crazy/stupid for not wanting the drugs.  People can be so rude.

I started with www.google.com. And then asked my OB.

  • Wow this post sure got crazy fast! I had an epi with DD and I have no problem calling my delivery vaginal and not natural. I'm happy with my choice and that is all that matters to me. What does it matter really? Either way you have your baby.
