SO tired.... Pregnant moms of toddlers

I am so exhausted. My 15 month old has been co-sleeping after his first wake up and basically up every 2-3 hours. I was hoping that with time he would sleep longer, but the time is up. I am so very tired and I can't function during the day with so little sleep.

Last night we started the sleep lady shuffle and I think I got about 4 hours of sleep in total. I so so miss the days pre-baby when I could sleep for 10 hours a night in first tri. I am completely jealous of the ftm! I feel like such a bad mom these days with the nausea and exhaustion.

  • Sorry, mama :-(  Can you put him back to sleep in his crib after he wakes up?  DH and I take turns getting up early with DS so we each get a day to sleep in on the weekends....maybe you could do this during the week too?

  • I would definitely start trying to train him to sleep in his crib all night.  That can become a big problem when the new baby comes!

  • I am right there with you.  I need toothpicks in my eyes to keep them open.  DH doesn't understand how tired I actually am.

Yep, I agree. It has to be now for sure. I think I am just going to cancel everything this week and get it done. This would be a nightmare with a new baby here!

This was going to be my suggestion as well.

  • I am a ftm and I am not always sleeping through the night. I usually get up at 3 or 4. Unless its the weekend I can't go back to sleep because I have to leave my house at 6 for work. It sucks. I would love to sleep more.

  • I feel your pain.  I have a 1 year old and for a while, I was doing the same thing after his middle-of-the-night wake-ups.  It was making me even more exhausted and he was waking up for the day even earlier.  It's so hard but we've started letting him cry a bit to put himself back to sleep.  If he stands up or is really screaming, I go in, but other than that, I am trying to get him to eliminate that tendency.

I miss when I was FTM and slept all day every day (I was on summer break during first tri and it worked out perfectly!)

  • Lucas has been a ball of energy when he first wakes up lately. Usually he'll climb into bed with us and sleep for another hour or two. Thankfully MH takes him in the morning so I can get more sleep.

  • I feel your pain! DS is 21 months and is going through a major sleep regression right now. I am like the living dead at work today!

  • ugh, same here. Well we don't co-sleep which I think can make things easier (not co-sleeping), but DS has been waking up at night and he also gets up very early in the mornings. I have to go to bed super early to mitigate the problem. He also didn't nap at all this weekend.

And I am realizing there is basically no wiggle room in our schedules. We can't start making dinner until DH comes home and DS is in bed, which is 7:30. Then DH and I make and eat dinner. Then I try to go to bed asap (hopefully by 9, usually closer to 10). Overnight I wake up on my own at 2, 3, or 4, and then at 5:30 I'm up because DS is. And I might be awoken some other time(s) of the night because of DS (but DH has been going to him, at least.) I think I need 10 hrs per night but I'm lucky to get 8 or 9.

What is the sleep lady shuffle?

  • We are sleeping ok at night (she's always been a good sleeper--STTN starting at 5 weeks), but I find I'm getting really tired just trying to keep up with her during the day!

  • It is definitely different than being pregnant the first time.  My DS still wakes up once per night and gets up super early so I am only getting 6-ish hours of sleep per night.

Beginning next week I will be babysitting my 5 week old niece during the day so I won't have any down time unless they magically nap at the same time : /

  • The sleep lady shuffle is a kind of sleep training, like CIO- but you don't leave them alone in the room.

  • yup I feel you! We are co-sleepers and even though I'll miss it i'm working on moving DS to his crib for more of the night. He sleeps really well right now (knock on wood) but it's just becoming a tight sqeeze for all of us. I'm a SAHM so I nap with him during his evening nap and if I can't do that DS and I go to bed at 7 together haha and DH stays up reading.

I hope you get more sleep soon!

    Lil surprise due October 18th!

  • DS is not a toddler, he is only 6 months old, but i am getting so tired just getting up the once or twice a night with him... i am half tempted to just give him his bottle in the crib, lol.
  • I feel for all you moms with a LO still getting up at night. I don't know how you do it. I am so exhausted after work and entertaining DS for a few hours before bed, I might go crazy if I didn't get a full night of sleep. You are all champs!

well in that case keep it up. sleep training is hard and you lose sleep in the short term but you will reap the rewards later. We did CIO at 5 mo and it was glorious when DS sttn just 3 days in! Granted as I wrote before he doesn't sleep perfectly all of the time and now is one of the not-so-great times but leaving him on his own has tended to work out well for us, as hard as it is to do.

  • I feel your pain. My 22mo has suddenly been waking up at night. Probably teething. I finally got to sleep at 1am, he was up already by 3am and didn't get back to bed until 4:30. Then I had to get my other son up for kindergarten at 6:30am. I planned to nap, but that didn't happen either.

I do envy those FTMs! I used to think I was so tired back then. What a joke. Getting up to pee I at least could go back to bed on my own terms. Lol  I wish I could've seen how easy I had it back then! Going to work while pregnant was much easier than managing kids while pregnant. I'm not sure I could get much more tired.
