I had a friend in elementary school named Keturah and I've always liked the name. When I mentioned it to DH last night as a possible girl name, he seemed to like it (our first pick is Olivia, since "Oliver" is a HUGE family name, but it's just getting too popular at this point).
He also said we could call her "Kat", but I don't really like that nn...any other nn suggestions?

This is one of the big reasons I like it.

I disagree with the other posters. I love the name Keturah. I love how unusual and underused it is and I love that it has great nicknames like Kat. (I think that's a good compromise, btw -- I am doing the same thing with my husband -- I get the name I want, he gets the nickname he wants). And it's SO much better than trendy Olivia. I like Olivia but wow, overused!
Have you read the book KETURAH AND LORD DEATH? I think ti was a National Book Award finalist (winner?) a few years back. Great book -- it's a Young Adult novel, told kind of like a fairy tale, and that Keturah is a really admirable character.
Who is Keturah in the Bible? I've heard some obscure ones (my sister's name is Arah...doesn't get much more obscure than that), but I've NEVER heard Keturah.
How is it pronounced? I'm pronouncing it keh-TER-uh, which doesn't sound pretty to me at all.
I agree with PP. It doesn't sound like a real name, even though it seems it is. I can't say that I like it, but I do like that it's an unusual biblical name.
Abraham's second wife (after Sarah died) Genesis 25:1-4,
I pronounce the the "TER" like "TURE" as in "pure" --Keh-TURE-ah

Ohhhh...Somehow that name has slipped me my entire life.
That is a prettier pronunciation.
I think I like it.

i think it's interesting. it has a nice ring to it, and although it's not common, it doesn't sound made up.

Yep!
I'm familiar with the name and I don't think it's terrible, but I think it might be a hard name to live with.
I would say it sounds like something I would tell someone after they sneeze!
