So, since almost all of my favorite foods are now off-limits (sushi, lox, red wine, cold cuts, my husband's homebrew, clams on the half shell, etc) I have been dreaming (obsessing) about when I will get to taste these foods again. So much so that my plan is to have my husband smuggle a dirty martini and a tray of sushi from our favorite restaurant in a cooler into the delivery room so that I can indulge as soon as we get our time with baby and they take him/her off to be bathed. Aside from the baby itself, I can't think of a better motivator to get through labor and delivery!
Anyone else dreaming of the first meal?

With DD, I had her at 4:44am. Nothing was open! I was starving by the time the cafeteria brought me breakfast. I had my mom bring us burgers at lunch.
Truthfully, once you deliver you are starving, and anything tastes amazing.

I obsessed about planning my first meal after DD was born, but then I felt so bloated and tired and gross, I really couldn't enjoy anything (especially the drink I had been so much looking forward to!).
It was hospital food and fruit for me.
I told DH that I want beer packed in my hospital suitcase. Both my dad & my uncle are brewers and turned us into a bunch of beer snobs. I really miss it.
I haven't stopped eating anything except ahi tuna, so that'll probably be consumed asap after delivery. But I like the way I cook it (pan seared and almost raw in the center) so it'll have to wait until I get home
The hospital I go to is great when it comes to food... The nurses all have passes to the vending machine (that is full of sandwiches, microwave hamburgers, yogurts, and tons of other stuff) and they will bring you whatever you want from there. The only thing they do not have there is root beer, because that is their code word to get visitors the hell out of your room.
If I decide I don't want anything they have, I'll be sending DH to the grocery store nearby to get me a chicken finger sub with Swiss cheese. And a root beer, lol.
Last time all I wanted was a turkey sandwich from Panera and a beer.
I got both (well the beer was at home).
This time, I have been eating lunchmeat, since my OB said it was fine. So, the only thing I'm going to want is a beer :-) Its a plus, because it helped with my milk let down!
I hadn't thought about my first post-delivery meal until now....I have to say thank you for making me think of it though. I now recall how horrible that first meal after having DS was, so clearly, I need to have an alternative in mind.

With DD, I wanted my parents to pick me up a hoagie on the way to the hospital. But as it turned out, they were visiting us and staying with us so I ended up with a burger and fries. Which trust me, was just great. I was so glad I didn't have to eat the food at the hospital!!!
