What does your DH/SO do (work)?

As DH left for a 24 hour shift at the fire house, it got me thinking about what it'll be like to take care of 2 kids by myself. I was a full time single parent with DS for over a year, so I'm sure I can handle 2 kids by myself for 24 hours every 3rd day. It won't be easy at times, but I'm up for the challenge

My DH is a firefighter (career/IAFF for any other firewives out there) and he works 24 hour shifts with 48 hours off. I actually really love his schedule, but I know it'll be challenging with a newborn at home until we all adjust.

What does your DH/SO do for work?

My DH is the manager of a gym. He works really long hours. I already hate it, and I'm sure it'll be worse when there's a little one around,

Mine was in the army infantry but was severely injured (my American hero). He is doing great but has had trouble finding his new passion, since his dream job of the army was over when he was 19. He's changed his major 5 times and has finally settled on art. He also just finished an apprenticeship at a tattoo shop and is officially a licensed tattoo artist. He has amazing talent and may be world famous someday

I'm so proud of him! I have no clue how we are going to work out child care. I may have to switch back to day shift.

Mine is a police office that works 7 pm to 5 am four nights a week; Sun-Tues off I know this will be a challenge because on his work days, I will feel like a single parent. the only bonus I can think of right now is that on his nights off, he can get up with lil one to give me a couple nights of sleep.

Thats awesome that your DH is a firefighter! I have the same schedule as he does for an ambulance service I work for, and Im not looking forward to it being a new FTM.

My husband works with at metro north. He has an awesome schedule 73:30 I I get to work at 6:304 with an hour drive. Love his schedule he is home by 4.

I'm a toddler teacher and I live practically next to the school and my husband is a call center manager and he works almost the same hours as me which is nice.

My DH works for a local news station as a videographer and editor. He goes out on a lot of shoots and meets many famous people which is pretty cool! Only draw backs.... Driving around all night in bad weather and working 211. I work 84, so we literally cross paths for 3 hours while sleeping!

College professor. I'm pretty lucky, aside from the classes he teaches, his schedule is super flexible. He does travel to the field for several weeks in April and May so that's always a challenge.

DH is an airline mechanic/supervisor. Works 4 10hr days from 5am3:30pm. He gets 3months off when the baby is born.

Consumer lending, but during tax season he also works at a tax place, so he's been working 70hours/week lately.

He's a lawyer. He works for a federal contractor. He can set his own schedule of 9 hours per day. It's currently 7:30 to 4:30 but he has a long commute, about an hour. He also travels once per month or two for 2 to 4 days.

I am self employed and work pretty standard business hours but every once in a while I work late or weekends.

I am mainly concerned about how to take two dogs for a morning walk with a toddler and newborn when DH is traveling. It's not easy now with just one. I may ask my SIL or our nanny to spend the night while he travels for the first few months after baby.

My SO is a software programmer. It's a job he enjoys and it provides well for us but he travels a lot. For instance since oct he has been out of town monfri, every week . He does have some months though where he is in town and works normalish hours . I'm already freaking out because I have no clue how I'm going to handle getting DS to school , baby to daycare , dog to day camp and get me to work by 8am . Also , picking everyone up by 6 when I get off at 5 .. Long story short I am now looking for a part time job !

He's a construction superintendent for a large commercial construction company. He works 7 to 430. I am a social worker and work 9 to 7 four days a week or 10 to 6, 5 days a week.

DH is a police officer. Works 6 days on, 3 days off, so his days off change every week. He works a split shift on the midnight shift, so either 9:45pm-6:15am or 10:45pm-7:15am. We're used to the schedule with just the 2 of us, but i'll be rough when the baby comes...I'll be on my own at night, and I'll have to try to be quiet when he's sleeping during the day! (ha!)

I'll be home for a couple months when the LO is born, but then I'll go back to work, slowly, at my part time job at a tutoring franchise from 4-8ish. I will be leaving my full-time job as a middle school teacher.

So is my dh , he works steady mids 9pm to 7am, 4 on 4 off. I'm going to have my hands full on his work days, by the time he sleeps and goes to the gym there's not much time left.

My DH is a scientific glassblower. He makes glassware for universities and research labs. He works on contract so he's can kind of make his own hours but he normally works 50 hours a week. Luckily my oldest will be in school full time when this little one is born so I will have just two at home most of the time.

My DH is a work-a-holic! He does IT Security for a world wide company that has him traveling 3 of the 4 weeks per month, but usually home on the weekends; he has a part-time, as needed job where he still does work for his old company, and we just started our own company that is on a contract basis and he tries to work around his full-time job.

We FaceTime and instant message a lot, needless to say!

Aerospace Engineer.

He can set his own schedule and has the ability to work from home which is nice, but he's such an overachiever and often works long hours when they are in the middle of new project. He also has to frequently travel, including internationally which has him gone for 2-3 weeks at a time. I hate it when he travels but he loves his job and he works for a great company so I try to be supportive.

DH is a and IT tech at an elementary school and helps out both teachers and students alike. It is similar to his previous job in the military. His hours I can't complain about 7 am to around 4 but now he is doing classes at the community college to get an Associates then a Bachelors and is gone most of the evenings for an extra 3 hours for classes. But I know it'll be worth it to get as much done now before our LO is in the picture.

My husband is a boat captain, this year he took a new captain position so he will have a set schedule 5am 5pm Monday Friday then 5am 2pm on Saturdays. It will still roughly be 70 work weeks but at least he won't be getting home at midnight anymore. :

My husband is a Fire Fighter too. He is a lieutenant for the FDNY.

BF is a part time student and has a part time job at an auto parts store. He works almost 40 hours most weeks so it helps pay the bills. We both have erratic schedules so childcare is going to be tough.

DH is a resident coordinator for low income housing. He helps but the kids on the right path in life and helps the parents get out of the low income system. He works 40 hours a week but will be going down to 32 once LO comes.

Restaurant manager with aspirations/plans to open his own restaurant. It would be a breakfast/lunch spot so open 7:30am-3:30pm but his hours would be much longer. Right now he works 7:30-5:30pm, weekends included. It sucks.

Mine is a deputy for PBSO and he works nights. 4 on, 4 off from 7pm to 6:30am. He also loves working extra permit details for overtime. When I told him I was pregnant, he picked up more details.

Right now DH is regular road patrol, but he just put in for the DUI unit which would have him working every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9pm to 4am.

DH manages an investment fund. When he is not traveling, he works from home, which is great! The downside though is that there will be 2-3 week stretches where he is overseas for work.

I dreaded those stretches when we were TTC, and as our pregnancy progresses, I'm sure I'll start dreading them again. We've already agreed that there will be no overseas travel in the month of September.

My DH is a Correctional Officer at a big county prison. He works 2 to 10 and sometimes forced into a double, so 2pm to 6am. His days off are Wed & Thurs, so his schedule will help with less daycare bc my days off are Sat & Sun and I'm dayshift. The downside is sometimes he doesn't know when he'll be drafted for a double...and I don't do last minute changes well.

MY DH IS A FIREFIGHTER/ PARAMEDIC HE ALSO DOES THE 24 HOUR SHIFTS BUT WE HAVE A UNIQUE SITUATION. I WORK FOR 911 AS A DISPATCHER. WE WORK IN THE SAME COUNTY AND OFTEN WORK THE SAME NIGHTS OR DAYS SO WE REALLY HAVE TO WORK OUT A SCHEDUAL BEFORE OUR LO GETS HERE.
