I am looking for a new infant carseat for whenever #2 comes along. Our carseat for DS was a hand-me-down and expired when he was 6 months old. I won't be buying until I am KU but for some reason I've been on a big hunt for this. Anyways, does anyone have the maxi-cosi mico? I like that it is only 8 pounds heavy. I will be having a RCS so I want everything as light as possible! But I don't hear much about this carseat, most the amazon reviews said it was good, but one person said it wasn't padded and that concerns me (even though no one else said that). Soooo thoughts?
Re: Does anyone have a Maxi-Cosi Mico?
The limits are 29"/22lbs. The 22lb limit wasn't a problem for us. DD is 16 months and 22lbs now, but she outgrew the Mico by height by about a year.
The Mico was a contender for us, mainly because of it's "light weight" appeal. The difference in weight was so minimal that I truly wouldn't make a decision based on that. We currently don't have latch, so the Mico base was a turn off because there is no belt lock off. A previously mentioned it's also not very padded.
I had high expectations for this seat but ultimately we ended up with the Chicco Keyfit 30. A lot of people have said the Chicco is super heavy, but I barely noticed a difference holding both at the same time. This is coming from someone who has a strength issue in my dominant arm, so heaviness was a huge consideration.
According to amazon (my shopping Bible ha), the maxi-cosi said it was 8 lb, vs the chicco keyfit (which is also the other one we're considering) at 17 lb. This seemed like a big difference to me, but maybe it doesn't feel like as much when they're being held.
Well they should be more uniform when labeling these things! haha. In that case, I'll stick to the Keyfit. Thanks ladies!
Yeah that 17 is with the base included. The Maxi Cosi & Chicco are very comparable in weight. CR says Mico weighs in at 8lbs vs Keyfit 30's 9lbs.
When you add a 7-9lb baby they're both going to feel the same, I'd bet.
