Does anyone have a Maxi-Cosi Mico?

I am looking for a new infant carseat for whenever #2 comes along. Our carseat for DS was a hand-me-down and expired when he was 6 months old. I won't be buying until I am KU but for some reason I've been on a big hunt for this. Anyways, does anyone have the maxi-cosi mico? I like that it is only 8 pounds heavy. I will be having a RCS so I want everything as light as possible! But I don't hear much about this carseat, most the amazon reviews said it was good, but one person said it wasn't padded and that concerns me (even though no one else said that). Soooo thoughts?

  • It's a decent seat, good for lightweight and tight spaces. There's nothing wrong with this seat, I'd take the online reviews with a grain of salt. Lots of people have zero clue about seats, really, and the reasons they mark down the seat for generally aren't to do with proper function, and more because they misunderstand how to use the seat properly. And really, not many seats are super padded because they don't need to be, lo will definitely be comfortable.

  • We used the Mico and liked it a lot. It was lightweight and fairly easy to carry. There wasn't any extra padding beneath the cover, but many convertibles don't even have padding. It has foam around the head area for crash protection. we used it until DD was about 8 months and switched to a convertible. She was almost 6 pounds when we left the hospital and she fit well in the Mico. The base was very easy to install. We used latch, but seatbelt was just as easy.
The limits are 29"/22lbs. The 22lb limit wasn't a problem for us. DD is 16 months and 22lbs now, but she outgrew the Mico by height by about a year.
  • The Mico was a contender for us, mainly because of it's "light weight" appeal. The difference in weight was so minimal that I truly wouldn't make a decision based on that. We currently don't have latch, so the Mico base was a turn off because there is no belt lock off. A previously mentioned it's also not very padded.

I had high expectations for this seat but ultimately we ended up with the Chicco Keyfit 30. A lot of people have said the Chicco is super heavy, but I barely noticed a difference holding both at the same time. This is coming from someone who has a strength issue in my dominant arm, so heaviness was a huge consideration.

  • According to amazon (my shopping Bible ha), the maxi-cosi said it was 8 lb, vs the chicco keyfit (which is also the other one we're considering) at 17 lb. This seemed like a big difference to me, but maybe it doesn't feel like as much when they're being held.

  • Lol, the weight on the Keyfit probably includes the base. The heaviest infant seat is only 10.4 lbs, it's one of the Snugrides.
  • Well they should be more uniform when labeling these things! haha. In that case, I'll stick to the Keyfit. Thanks ladies!

  • Yeah that 17 is with the base included. The Maxi Cosi & Chicco are very comparable in weight. CR says Mico weighs in at 8lbs vs Keyfit 30's 9lbs.

When you add a 7-9lb baby they're both going to feel the same, I'd bet. :)
