Re: There is a freaking MOUNTAIN LION

  • That's scary! But is it weird that I would make sure to have my camera handy, just in case it walked past?

  • Eh, unless you look like a small dog or cat or startle it, you're fine. I guess I don't flip out because we frequently get cougars.
  • That is awesome!

    Mountain Lion.

  • Where are you from?  While it would probably would make the news, it's not that uncommon where I'm from.

If you find yourself in the presence of one, don't run.  Make yourself look larger.  Don't bend over (it makes you look like prey).

It is nerve wracking though.  I hope they are able to find it soon!

  • Yeah, I just googled it and it said that they dont really care about people, they just want to eat deer. I guess its NBD. It just seems very out of the ordinary and scary.

Northern Illinois. I have the police scanner on my FB and someone called the cops claiming they saw one.

  • Mountain lions scare me! Where I am from there are signs on the trails that say "You are in mountain lion country, be alert." There were times when I was walking by myself where I turned back.

  • When I lived out in BFE we would get notices of mountain lion sightings all the time. It was fun walking home from school. Alone. On a private road. With no visible houses anywhere.

This. I find it laughable that it's newsworthy here. They have been here forever.

It's kinda funny. We had one make the news, only because it wandered into someone's garage and fell asleep (it was cold out). Owner came in and scared the crap out of it, he opened the door and cat ran like hell. We get lots because deer hang out here all the time.
  • My old high school has been put under lock down twice due to a bear walking around school campus. Wouldn't of been a huge deal if 1/3 of the school wasn't in portables.

    I love that shiit.

We have chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, birds, and deer.

  • Eh.  We get them down in town every once in a while. Just don't let your LO roam around outside. You should be fine.

lol, we had that too. More when we lived up north, but only a few out here. Badgers were kinda fun, in a cranky rip you apart sorta way. I've had an encounter with one. Hmmm, we also have elk, skunks, coyotes, bull snakes, rattle snakes, and lots of big birds. I love spring when the bald eagles are migrating north.
  • A mountain lion would freak me out. <------- city girl.

  • We don't get anything lie cougars or mountain lions here. I don't live in the city, but it'd freak me out if one was right outside my house.

I remember walking outside in the middle of a bright sunny day to find a dazed, swaying raccoon sitting on his hind legs staring at me from a few feet away. I promptly went back inside.

Deer are the most dangerous animals in America in terms of ER visits.

That doesn't surprise me. Most people in our area have hit them on the highway, me included.

  • We get them here. I grew up in rural Northern Minnesota and one time someone in the metro area decided that they wanted a baby tiger. Once it got too big they let it "free" in my home town, so we had a tiger roaming around for weeks. Every time we went to the bus I thought that I was going to get eaten by a tiger. That was freakin' scary.

  • Hehe!  Cool.  They're afraid of people though; they're the kind of animal that if you see one you should just shout at it and open up your jacket to look big and they'll run away.  Just put your dog and cat inside.
