Currently I am pregnant with #3 so I am just looking to the future. I have a lot of weight to lose. My ultimate goal will be the princess half marathon at disneyland. At the time of the run my kids will be 5,3 and 1. I would have to take all the kids because disneyland is an overnight trip from here. My DH could possibly come but im not sure of his underway schedule. Ergo for baby girl? Any ideas or input would be great.
Re: Half Marathon with 3 kids??
you are ambitious! : ) If it were me, the only way i would go is probably if someone stayed home with the kids while i spent the weekend at the race. i would be ok with my mom caring for them for the weekend. Or if DH could come too, i would bring the kids along and make it a fun family weekend. But then it would be nice to have a romantic weekend away with just DH......i dont think i would do it if i had to take all 3 kids with me alone. good luck!
So, how are you going to run if you have no one to stay with the kids?
I ran 2 half marathons this last year with a 2 yo, 4 yo & 6 yo....
BUT they were not physically with me when I ran. For the first, MIL watched them for a long weekend. The second, DH came to the finish to watch me with the 2 younger ones (oldest was with a friend because she thought she may miss soccer).
LOL thanx I think. Im not due until next month im just trying to get a plan and goal together. My family is all on the east coast so I am trying to see if my mom could make it out here. As far as my DH he is military and on sea duty so I dont count on him. But a family weekend would be great.
Okay... so I train with my two younger kids in a double jogger as well. I have never raced with them though. I have ran a 5k (training) with my older DD on her bike. I have ran upto a 7 miler pushing my two little ones.
I would never fathom the idea of having a newborn or any child under 6 months in a jogging stroller (and a 4-5 you on a bike is a PITA when you are trying to run). And... unless you are walking you should not have a baby in a carrier. You know how your chest can bounce when you run? Can you imagine a baby bouncing like that?
Unless you have a gym with childcare, I would not try to do a half marathon this summer, especially if DH is not there to watch the kids while you train.
Most half marathons won't let you run with a stroller. I'm not positive about the Princess half, but I would suspect that's the case since it's a large race.
If you are only doing 5ks right now, find a 10k that fits your needs-- and a babysitter. I can't think of any scenario where you could run with 3 kids... especially not in a baby carrier.
I have the expedition and it's awesome. I started training with DS in the car seat attachment at 8 wks pp and ran a half, by myself, at about 5 1/2 mths pp. it was far from a PR, but it was a goal. I did all my weekly runs with the jogger, and DH watched DS so I could do my long runs on Saturdays. Definitely plan for someone else to watch your LOs.
