DD1 is having a fit over brushing tangles out of her hair. I can't say I blame her - it hurts! We use a shampoo with conditioner and a de-tangling spray. But I'm wondering if switching brushes/combs might help the process.
I have a wide-toothed detangling comb that is gentler than regular brushes and combs. DD has my fine hair and it can really turn into a mess! I used the detangling comb on myself for years before I had kids, so I know it makes a difference. It's similar to this one. The teeth kind of curve out and away from each other.
Only one of our brushes has even wider-set bristles that than one. They have a little more "give" to them, so they don't pull as much during detangling.
It does seem to make a difference; I used it on my own hair before I cut it short and getting out the tangles hurt less.
We have one of those ones shaped like a bean that is for tangles. Also try combing her hair with a wide comb while she's still in the tub and the conditioner is still in her hair, that makes a big difference. DD has super unruly curly hair and I am blue to comb it that way.
The wet brush! Best brush ever. My dd always complained(even cried) when we brushed her hair & that was with de-tangling spray. Then I found the wet brush. She hasn't complained since & we never use detangling spray anymore.

I have always had long, straight hair and this is my favorite brush I have ever owned in my life! Mine is getting grungy and I really need a new one but can't find one. Never thought to look on amazon. Thanks for the link!
Also, remember to start brushing at the bottom of her hair and work your way up. I've also noticed that when my DD's hair starts to get really tangly, that's usually when she needs a trim.

I found an "ouchless" Goody brush at Walgreens a couple of years ago. Now we have two. Kind of like this:

I second the wet brush! It's AMAZING. We never have an issue with tangles in DD's super baby fine hair now.
I bought the Knot Genie Detangling Brush, it works very nicely:

I third the wet brush!
Another vote for the wet brush! LOVE it!
