Actually not exciting at all.
But, what are your thoughts on expensive shampoo/conditioner vs. more reasonably-priced? I have color-treated hair (blonde foils) and I am always wondering if it's really worth it to buy the expensive stuff, or can I go for a more reasonably-priced brand?
Is the expensive stuff really going to keep my color looking better longer? Or is the color going to fade anyway and my roots are going to come in, and therefore I should just put the money toward touch-ups and new foils, rather than a $60 bottle of shampoo.
Bonus points if you can give me a reasonably priced brand of shampoo and conditioner that works well for color-treated hair.
Re: Exciting topic! Shampoo!
Thanks lisajay! I was in the store the other day and wanted to try a different shampoo/conditioner, and walked out with nothing because I was so overwhelmed by all of the choices! I've never tried Biolage - I might check that out.
My sister uses Wen and loves it, but her hair isn't colored so I wasn't sure about that aspect of it. I have stick straight, no volume hair FWIW.
I've asked my hairdresser about this. He said the difference is that the less expensive shampoos actually are heavier scented. In order to do this, they add a lot of alcohol and other chemicals that can dry your hair out/ strip the color faster.
That being said, I still use the cheap stuff.
I always use professional shampoo/conditioner. My SIL owns a salon, so I am able to buy wholesale. She currently sells loreal professional line. I'm using the lavender colored bottles. I like it ok, but it has been A LONG time since I found a shampoo I just loved.
Yes I am blonde! Maybe I should have mentioned that in the OP since I definitely have to deal with brassiness and yellowing. I have never heard of purology - can you buy it at a store?
Thanks for all of the input ladies!
I August we need to compare who has the thickest hair. I'm always told when I go to the salon that they can not believe how thick my hair is.
I just use Tresseme
You can buy Pureology at CVS and Target and it will be good product. They are a little more expensive. It's the only thing I use when I have red in my hair because of the fading and discoloration. They make a line called Perfect 4 Platinum.
I'm a big fan of the l'oreal professional line. I use the color treated shampoo even when my hair isn't colored during the winter. My hair gets really dry every winter and I find the more expensive shampoo really helps. I think it's because, as pp pointed out, cheaper brands tend to have more alcohol/be more drying.
When my hair is colored, I tend to stick with browns (it gets pretty blonde from summer sun, so I dye it in the fall so I don't end up with blonde ends and brown roots), so it's hard to say if it helps keep color longer.
