Cable/satellite

We have Directv currently, along with Netflix. We mostly watch sports and the random reality show on Directv. We are considering canceling it to save money, and because we really don't watch it that much. I know DH will miss his sports though. Who else lives without cable or satellite? Do you have Netflix or something different?

We did from early 2009 until late 2012 when we moved into our new house. We had Netflix from early 2011 I think until we moved and cancelled it because we got cable. We were totally fine without it. In fact, probably more than fine. I'm already getting aggravated having cable again because it's such a huge time suck. BUT, I will admit that it is nice having the Disney channel when nothing else will distract DD so that I can get a few things done.

We don't have cable or satellite and haven't for nearly 3 years now. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video. We're happy with the setup and don't have any plans to get cable or satellite anytime soon.

I prefer Amazon Prime Instant Video to Netflix these days...they have more movies included for free and I like that you can rent/buy newer videos if you want. It's $79/year but also includes other perks, like free 2-day shipping for most items on Amazon and free rental of a kindle book each month from the kindle lending library.

We haven't had cable or satellite in years. We stream current TV series shows from the networks' sites (a lot of them are available the next day and stay up for four weeks), plus we have Netflix (but Canadian Netflix is different and doesn't have nearly as good selection as yours). We don't miss it, but it does mean that we don't know about new shows until people have been talking about them for a while. But we're also not into sports or reality TV, so I don't know much about your particular interests. I know you can watch some sports online (we did that when we lived in Colombia and there was a big hockey game or something).

We haven't had TV for 3 years. We have Netflix and CokeandPopcorn's website has pretty much any new show we want to see. I don't miss it at all. We can watch sports online. We also have a Roku and use Crackles free app which has Disney stuff.

Along with the costs, another reason is because I feel like we turn it on for sound and it's a waste of time. I love tv but know I can spend my time doing other things. It will save us 107 a month.

We don't have cable but do have a TiVo. We realized a good majority of the shows we watched were on the local networks. We did have Hulu plus and Netflix at first but cancelled those too.

We just have netflix and a really good antenna to get the local digital signals. We have never had cable, and just recently added netflix. We don't watch any sports though.

IMO get an antenna that goes outside for the best results, I think ours was about $90.00. I think there are websites dedicated to the best antennas so do your research.

We picked one up for about $30 at Target and really like it. I don't know if where you live makes a difference in the signal?

We pay like 160 a month for DirecTV. We also pay for Hulu Plus, Netflix, etc. We also have AppleTV. I highly recommend AppleTV. Really we could cancel DirecTV and watch all of our shows on Hulu Plus or online. The AppleTV will wirelessly feed anything from the computer, iPad, or iPhones onto the TV. It was a one time fee of 100 dollars. We can also do photo slide shows from our iPhones and everything onto the tv, with music, in a matter of seconds. Any sports we want to watch that isn't on our AppleTV apps, we can find on the sports websites on the computer an stream it onto the TV. The only reason we haven't quit DirecTV is because we bought a 400 dollar TiVo through them. Even though we bought it, they said if we cancel service...they will charge us canceling fees AND we have to send the TiVo back....even though we paid for it.

SO is pissed due to the fact that he pays for the European soccer channels to watch the games. But we renewed our contract in Aug and in Sept, they cancelled those channels, wouldn't refund us, wouldn't let us break our contract, and told us if we wanted to watch soccer, we had to do so on the Spanish soccer package. They has us month of free Spanish soccer channel for free, only for us to see that they are standard definition, they are in Spanish, and they only show like one European soccer game for like every 10 Spanish soccer games. So we pay for the European soccer package STILL even though they dropped it.

I say, get rid of it and get AppleTV. If we could break our contract with DirecTV, our monthly tv bill would go down from about 185 dollars a month...including Hulu Plus and Netflix....down to about 25 dollars a month.

We just cancelled our cable on Monday but so far we haven't missed having it. We got an Apple TV for both our tvs and have a subscription to both Netflix and huluplus. A lot of the shows we watch are available on Hulu and Netflix seems to have a decent movie and tv show selection for Darcy. We are going to look into getting the cables to hook one of our laptops up to the tv so that we can watch shows that are available for online streaming from the network or another site since the selection for CBS, Showtime, and USA suck on Hulu. Once our introductory rate goes away we will be paying about half of what our cable and Internet bill had been so even with the added cost of the Hulu and Netflix subscriptions we are saving a decent amount of money.
