Buy cheapish vaccums.
I just received the latest copy of of Floor Focus (a super boring flooring/design industry magazine) and there was a short article on issues with vacuums and the newesst carpet fiber and constructions. The end of the article reiterated that Dysons have failed to pass the Carpet and Rug Institute"s Seal of Approval test and is never recommended for soft surface (carpet) cleaning.
So if you need a new vacuum, save your cash!
Re: Random Vacuum PSA
Me, too. After seeing how much crap that thing sucked up that our old vacuum didn't, I was amazed.
Wow!
I have heard from clients that they love Dysons, I just have to let them know with new carpet, it voids a lot of the warranties. I haven't personally had a client have a problem.
Did you call their customer service? They're pretty good at troubleshooting over the phone. We had an issue with the hose getting stuck and they talked us through it over the phone and turned out there was a part that needed replacing that they sent us quickly. I dunno how old yours is but there's a 5-year warranty so if it's still covered I'd call and if they can't help you over the phone you could probably get it fixed.
This.
Our old upstairs carpet loves the Dyson. The cheap vacuum didn't pick up all the hair and I could see it when the sun was shining through the window.
I suppose we could try it on the new carpet downstairs but I doubt it will suck as much hair.
Some of the new ones can suck especially on stairs and halls. Soft carpet itself will mat down faster than rough carpet but it will come back with vacuuming. Nylon will still be the best wearing fiber, no matter how many new things they come out with, however, the new poly's clean up easier (spills and such).
I need a new vacuum and am super tempted to get a Dyson because my German Shepherd sheds like crazy. I won't because I know that I will be the one person that ruins her carpet with the thing and I will get laughed at because I am supposed to know better!
It's never gonna turn around and desert you.
I LOVE my Dyson and won't waste a penny on anything else.
