How can this be normal....

My son has not pooped since last Saturday. Im being told this is okay for bf babies. I just dont understand how it can be! Ive tried prunes, warm prune juice, prune concentrate added to bm.... I guess he will go when he is ready.

    I know that it is normal but I don't like it. She's on soy formula and is always getting constipated. If my LO goes 2 days without a bm, she starts spitting up more. Then I break out the thermometer and help it along.

    Yes.  When Liam was a mess when he was super little this is what the GI specialist recommended and it would work within an hour.  But, we were advised 1tbs. of dark.  I am sure my doctor is really smart and yours is super dumb.

    But are you talking this sat? As in 3 days ago? That isn't a huge deal.  Granted I have a kid who poops now religiously 2 or 3 times a day, but BM babies can go forever can't they?

    We went 12 days here once. The pedi said to give it a few more days and sure enough on days 13 through 16 it was poomageddon. DS was gassy but his stomach wasn't hard or bloated so they weren't as concerned.

    its normal to go up to 10 days. ive known babies to go u to 14.

    Mine is FF and sometimes only goes every three days but I have heard that BF babies can go longer.We have also tried the prune juice and so on.If you are doing solids, you may want to try pears, they seem to help and also a bit of pear necter.

    Also I was told in is a concern if the stools are hard and the baby has a difficult time passing them

    It was Saturday the 12th.  I will go and get karo syrup.  Does it matter how many ounces of BM I use?  Thanks so much.

    No but it's sweet so I would do it in a large bottle. 6 oz or so

    I have heard BF babies can go up to 2 weeks without pooping.  They say that BM is utilized so well that there is little waste so BF babies tend to poop less.  I know my LO will sometime go every 3-4 days and it does not seem like she is constipated or her tummy is bothering her.  If LO seems like he feels OK, then I would not worry about it to much.  My pedi also recommended pear juice to help get LOs bowel moving.

    If he's eating solids that may also back him up a little as his gut learns how to break down more complex food molecules... Make sure he's getting enough fluids too with the solids I have been trying to get my LO to have plenty of water just with the solids to make sure he doesn't get any more backed up than he has to.
