Nervous but here goes nothing-Girl name opinion

So we have pretty much decided on a name for our little girl but I am an indecisive person and I cannot commit. The name is Priscilla Helen (Helen after DH's dear Aunt who passed away a few years ago). I'm nervous to post here but would like to hear what you ladies think. Thanks in advance!

  • I like it. But then, I really like a lot of 17th-century names (like Dorcas), so I may not be representative.

I do urge you to avoid the nn Prissy, though.

  • Priscilla is NMS but it's a nice name, not made up, flows well, and if you love it, go for it! FWIW, I absolutely adore Helen.

  • NMS, but it is a real name and the MN is lovely. So good for you!

I do think you might want to consider that she may be teased and called prissy...

  • We would use the nn Cilla......I would like to avoid at all costs the nn Prissy

  • I think it's just fine. I wouldn't use it, but it is a real name, spelled properly, so I say you get major points right there.

  • Although it's not a name I would use, I think Priscilla is a nice name. I am all about naming children after special family members so I think Helen as a mn is lovely.

  • If you're nervous to hear what a bunch of people online think, how will you feel introducing Priscilla to anyone in public? Personally I think it's not a good choice and to be honest I can't imagine a girl or woman liking that as her own name.

+1.  I'm not a huge fan of Priscilla.  All I can think is Elvis' wife.

Well here I am! I woman named Priscilla who likes her name! I understand that everyone has their own opinions but I think this is a bit harsh of a generalization.

OP, I already shared my experiences with you on the May board and I don't want to highjack your thread, but I couldn't help replying to this comment.

  • Priscilla is lovely!  It's not one I'd use personally, but I'm excited to see someone else consider it.  My two main associations are both very positive -- the biblical woman who helped the apostle Paul, and the female love interest in "Johnny Tremain."  The latter went by Cilla as a nickname, which I think makes the name even lovelier.

And I absolutely adore Helen.  It's one I'm surprised more people aren't considering.

You've come up with a stunning combination: two seldom-used classics that people are familiar enough with to know how to spell and pronounce.  How can it get any better?

  • Priscilla isn't my style, but there's nothing wrong with it. The only problem I can think of is people teasing her with Priss.
  • It's not on my radar for girl's names, but like PP said, it's a nice name, spelled correctly and not made up.

FWIW, I didn't even consider "Prissy" as a NN. My first thought was the pop culture reference to Elvis's wife.

  • A girl I knew in grade school was named Priscilla and she was constantly teased and called prissy. Its such a harsh sounding name and I don't think its feminine at all. Helen is a beautiful name though, what about that as a FN?
