  • I'm really going to have to agree with OP's side on this. My son has SO much hair and he is FF, everyone says it's genes but I always knew it had something to do with the formula, it's just better. The whole breast is best thing is totally B.S. I mean Formula is made by scientists and mixologists, it's a perfect blend. BM can get all wonky depending on your diet and all that, but formula is perfect everytime. If you love your babies, Formula Feed, please.

Thanks for this post OP, I'm glad someone had the guts to enlighten us!

  • I'm gonna start drinking formula. I whip my hair back and forth, I whip my hair back and forth.
  • My baby looks like Donald Trump. It's awful. She's such a jerk for looking like that.
  • This explains so much. My mom really screwed me as an infant. I had no hair until I was nearly 3!

  • That's what I thought, but baldy didn't have hair until he was almost 1. Sad I wasted all my money on formula. Once I started washing/rinsing his hair with beer though it really softened it and started it growing.

Dear Diary, I'm really bored today. How much of an idiot can I be? I know, I'll blame my bald baby on breastfeeding ... That'll help a lot of women, I'm sure! Signed, Dumbass.

    Dear Dumb@ss,

Please don't do that. Seriously. I'm begging you. I'm made of paper and cardboard and I have more sense than that.

  • MUD.

FYI, if you mean her hair fell out as a newborn, that ommonly happens.  It didn't happen to either of my children, but to my cousins' children and friends' hildren.  I EBF both my kids: my son has a full head of thick hair while my daughters is fine and just starting to grow.  Yes, I look forward to pigtails and love when she will leave cute headbands in, but she is wonderful just the way she is...and breastfeeding was a winderful gift my body cooperated in giving my baby.  If someone wants to FF, thats their business, but base it on facts.

  • You are absolutely right! My 2nd cousins (4 times removed) had neighbors whose sister's husband's daughter said the exact same thing. This is very true. BFing does cause baldness and the cure is raw eggs and porcupine.

I can get the recipe for you all if you like.

  • That theory is stupid.  Ever baby loses their newborn hair.  It takes a long time for hair to grow in, especially if it's fine, or for some reason, a lot of blonde babies take forever to grow in hair.  She won't be bald forever.  Get over it.

  • LOL at this.  My DD was EBF for the first year and had a head full of gorgeous hair that never fell out.  DS was FF due to many, many issues and was bald until he was 18 months.
  • It sounds ludicrous but there is actually some truth to it. I am a clinical pediatric craneologist ( we study the head shape and hair patterns of infants and children) and we do see some correlation between breastfeed infants and low hair coverage and thickness. There are many theories, for one thing cows are completely covered in hair and most formula is made from cows milk. We have seen that in infants fed soy formula, the hair is not as thick as those fed cow milk based formula. Also soy formula fed infants tend towards a squarer head, like a block of tofu if you will.

There is some cutting edge research being done at the moment on rats and their offspring, the earliest released findings have suggested rats fed only their mothers milk do indeed show a balding pattern on their backs, compared to the rats fed an infant formula made of cow and sheep milk, with various plant extracts.

While human milk may not be best for baby, it does provide special bonding and nurturing time so in my practice I suggest a hybrid, with most calories coming from an infant formula and nursing done simply for the bonding aspect.

  • But, DH was FF and he had tons of hair when he was little but he went bald a 16! I took a chance bfing DD. She may be bald now, but I hope she gets a good 3040 years of hair once it comes in. FX.
