Parenting after a Loss

So I made lactation cookies...

And I can't stop eating them! They're so good. I mean, they're good for me as much as any cookie can be, but they're still cookies. I guess I won't be losing these last few pounds until we're done nursing...

Re: So I made lactation cookies...

  • I made a batch too and they are good. Too bad I found out a few days later that little man isn't gaining weight nursing and we switched to formula.

  • I made those while nursing DD. And LOL, DH got to a lot of them faster than me! I had a hard time bringing myself to eat something with that much butter in them though, because I don't eat a lot of cookies in general. But they were super good.

I make a batch and freeze them, just pull one out whenever I need a milk boost/sweet fix!

ETA: Not sure if they really do boost my milk, I luckily haven't had to really need it, but jeeze - they sure do taste good!

  • I know what you mean! I make a batch like once a week because I eat them all the time! Actually, since they're so fiber-full, I'll have two or three for a snack and they'll fill me up and prevent me from excess snacking. So, don't count out weight loss completely!

I googled it until I found a recipe that sounded good. Here's the one I use:

     Major Milk Makin' Cookies

    1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
    1 3/4 c. oats
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp salt
3/4 c. almond butter or peanut butter
    1/2 c. butter, softened
    1 c. flax
    3 T brewer's yeast
    1/3 c. water
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    2 tsp vanilla
    2 large eggs
    2 c. (12oz) chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts of your choice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a bowl.
In a large bowl, beat almond butter, butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, brewer's yeast, flax and water until creamy.
Mix in eggs. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Mix in nuts and chocolate chips. Add oats slowly, mixing along the way.

Place balls of dough onto greased baking sheets or baking stones. Bake 12 mins

They're SO good. It's hard to resist!

    I used this one:

    https://www.food.com/recipe/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-lactation-cookies-by-noel-trujillo-192346

I used 3/4 cup of each sugar (could probably have gone down to half cup of each), and substituted half whole wheat flour with the white. I used 4 tbsp. of brewer's yeast. And I added walnuts, almonds, and dried cranberries.

Does anybody know if they *really* work?

I ended up EPing (after DS wasn't transfering milk at 1 month old) and took everything in the book (fenugreek, reglan, domperidone, MM tea, oatmeal) and never got full supply..made me crazy, but I'd try it again since I'm a sucker for punishment..

I honestly don't know... DD hasn't been sleeping great and waking up to nurse (the longest 4 month wakeful ever), and I found when I pumped at night I wasn't hardly getting anything and she slept GREAT after DH just gave her a 5 oz. bottle one night when I was away. So, I decided to make these, and ate too many yesterday! I woke up this morning uncomfortably full (which hasn't happened in awhile), and DD STTN. I'm hoping it's not a fluke, though I have no idea if the cookies are responsible.
