3rd Trimester

37 weeks - Is there anyway to get comfortable?

Seriously - any suggestions?  I strained all day at work sitting in my desk chair.  I could not wait to be home.  I have been home for 2 hours trying to relax on the couch.  Every position is a strain.  Is there anything I am not thinking of?  Everything either puts too much pressure on my bladder, my intestines, my back or makes me feel like my belly is painfully stretching from gravity.  Ugh

  • Hands and knees.

You can also bring a birth ball to work and try sitting on it.  It is much more comfy for your pelvis and back.

seriously, maybe try pillows wedged under your belly no matter how you sit or lay down. I just change position a lot and it seems to help.

  • Funny - I actually did try that today (we have some at work that we can use).  It does help the backache, but it really adds to that "I've got a watermelon in my crotch" my feeling.  I was starting to get nervous.  I guess I know why it's a good labor position.  Feels like the baby 's just gonna pop right through.
  • Yeah - I guess just changing position is somewhat helpful.  It reminds me of when I used to do hard yoga.  After 90 seconds in one tough position you were happy to change into a different tough position.

  • Thanks for the advice.  I just found one that I like by Googling it.  I have a padded chair with no arms (it's padded on both the back and seat).  If I sit on it backwards I can rest my chin on the back of it, stretch my back and my belly rests somewhat comfortably on the cushioned seat.
  • Get in the tub!

I've started doing this at work. Our chairs suck and I can't bring a ball to sit on. Turning the chair around and stretching my hips and back has helped.

  • I have to get up and stretch. It's like pushing her where I want her to be. She is stubborn as all hell though and moves back. Also arching my back so that I am taking all the weight off my front area. Make sure your feet are flat on the ground.

  • A nice deep bubble bath. The weightless feeling is fantastic.
  • I have found 2 ways that are comfortable for me right now, but I am not as far along as you so they may not do the trick. I put a pillow on the floor in front of the couch, get down like on all 4s but rest my head and chest on the couch. I'm able to strech and sway my hips nicely. Sometimes I will lean back further on my legs so I end up stretching my inner thighs but still resting my head on the couch. The other is putting a pillow over the arm of the couch and then using blankets or pillows under my hips so that my belly is just barely touching the couch. This one is getting to be comfy not as long as before but it may help.

     Good luck! You're almost there!!!
