Humping motion?

Lately my lo has been doing this weird little arching his back motion as he nurses, and sometimes it looks like a humping motion. He doesn't fuss, and I think he's getting enough food since he's gaining weight fine... Just wondering what it could be!

Re: Humping motion?

  • My DS does that sometimes. I think it could be due to soreness because he is teething. Or could it be your LO is getting to be distracted? Another cause maybe reflux.

  • my DD did it for a while, when she fed, and some times in my arms when falling asleep. no sign of discomfort, just kinda... humping. after we got her bouncer when she got older, i had noticed her starting to bounce in my arms, and lap too, and sometimes when feeding. i believe it is a very similar motion, and possibly the same motion. she was just wiggling kinda. and now she rarely does it. for us it was just a phase of her learning how to move her body.

This; I think it's just a new motion for them. Kind of like smacking their heads is a different sensation so they do it for a couple of weeks and as long as you don't freak out about it, it loses its novelty and they stop doing it. DS went through the humping phase and got over it once he moved on to something else.

  • Thanks! That makes sense, since he likes to bounce all the time now. :
