E2 is up today-why arent follies growing??

Hi all, Im on day 5 of stims and went for my check this AM.... my RE just called and said my E2 shot up in 2 days from 192 to 628, but my follies are still 8-12 mm. They've been creeping up the whole time but its slow. does the rise in e2 mean more growth is coming soon?

me 40 (almost 41), DH 39

FSH: 8.6, AMH: 2.3, AFC: 15 at baseline-everything "normal"

TTC since 2009 when I was 37, secondary infertility
Male factor: double varicocele, now 3-4 yrs later, I probably have aging eggs, not diagnosed with DOR yet though.

DS: 4/29/05

MC: 9/12/11

7/12 IUI #1 -Gonal F Pen: 75-150, BFN (only 1 measurable follicle produced)
8/12 IUI #2 -BFN Gonal F pen: 150 BFN (only 1 measurable follicle produced)
NEED A BREAK ALREADY!!!!

TTC au natural...not happening. Ugh. When will my little guy get his sibling???

1/2013: IVF #1 Antagonist Prot. BCP for 2 weeks, Gonal F 300/Menopur 150, AFC baseline 10. Currently stimming, looking ok, 10 measuable follicles btwn 8-12mm, long road ahead.

How many do you have? Its 200 per mature follicle.

hi crystal...there are 13 total: 1- 12mm, 3- 11mm, 1- 10mm, 1 -9mm, 1 -8mm, 1 -7mm, and 5 smaller ones.....around 6mm.

I just checked my notes from my 2 IVF cycles, and noticed that I didn't hit E2 numbers that high until 2-4 days later than you, but both times my follies were in the range you mentioned. The first time, my biggest was 13.5 and the second time the biggest was 11.

I had far more eggs in that second cycle too (20 vs 12 in the first), so it sounds to me like everything is progressing appropriately.

Based on your age, you can expect to stim a little longer than younger folks. It took me 13 days both times, but it was worth it. Slow and steady really does win this race. I know it's hard to wait things out, but it will be worth it once it's over.

It sounds like you have many smaller ones coming online. So you are likely looking at two different cohorts of follies. I am famous for this. It will be up to your RE if they will go after the first or second cohort, or to try and get some from both. Sometimes this means sacrificing some of the larger ones to try and mature more of the smaller ones. GL.

Mine shot up the same way between day 3 and 4. It went from like 150 to 700ish. I was also on the antagonist protocol. My RE didn't even seem phased by it. Didn't change dosing or anything. I had about 12-15 that were all around 8-10mm. I think they estimated I had 20-25 follies total at that point. Then they changed to 30-35 after a different monitoring appt but I ended up with 25. I think they just jump like that.

I'm not sure, but I think it means your lining is preparing for ovulation. I could be wrong but when my E2 went from 12 to 2000 in one day. I was told I would probably have to do a freeze all because my uterus was preparing for ovulation but my eggs weren't ready yet.
