flaky hair help

One of my 4 year olds has had flaky hair on and off forever. I've always thought about taking her to a dermatologist but never followed thru (she's been to so many other specialists for constipation, motor delays, etc, that I was hesistant to drag her to more). Anyway, has anyone found a successful way to treat flakes? Thanks for any advice.
