High-Risk Pregnancy

Where is this baby already?! - Rant and vent

OK, I know I am only 38 weeks today but I just want this baby to come on her own.  Due to GD, it's pretty likely that they will insist I be induced between 39 and 40 weeks.  I really really really want a natural birth and to go into labor on my own.

I am doing everything from the chiropractor to the acupuncturist to evening primrose oil to walking uphill a lot.  I know she will come when she is ready, I just hope she is ready before my doctors are.  And I am so sick of going in for monitoring and NSTs, etc.

I just feel like I am being robbed from having the kind of pregnancy and birth that I want and I am running out of time to "beat the system."

  • AHHH. I feel the same! Due to the GD + my age (40) my Dr's are pushing for an induction before 40 weeks even though I am 100% diet controlled with excellent numbers. I haven't had a fasting number over 90 in weeks and my post meal numbers are perfect. 2 appointments a week - NST + U/S and so far all is perfect in there. Fluid good, size, right on track, etc. etc. But I still feel like I am up against the clock. Both my prior babies were a week late but I had an unmediated birth with my last baby with a total of 6 hours of labor. I SO want to just let this play out and have that experience again but I see induction looming. Met with my doula yesterday and we talked about some of the natural labor inducers so I started EPO yesterday 3x a day orally and will wait until I hit 28 to go internal with it. I already found an acupuncturist and plan to start with that the day I hit 39. Drinking Raspberry Tea, doing the chiro and walking too.

Fingers crossed for natural labor for both of us!

  • No one can force you to have an induction.

  • True, they can't physically force you but they sure can make you feel like you are doing the wrong thing if you go against their advise!

  • Thanks everyone!  I looked up the Miles Circuit and started doing the stair thing this morning.  My baby is actually in the right position, she just doesn't want to come out yet.  I do feel more pressure on my cervix today so maybe she has moved a little.  And I know this can't hurt so why not?  Thanks again.

And yes, as the PP said, I know they can't force me, but they can insist and persuade.  I talked to my doula baout it and she said I can resist for a while but that I don't want to get into a situation where everything is fine, everything is fine, and then something does happen and then the baby can't tolerate labor.  I think my OBGYN will let me go maybe a day or two past my due date but she is really going off of the advice of the perinatologists who recommend I go before 40.  I pressed them on the issue and they are emphatic that it is a bad decision in my case to wait longer.

I'm trying to surrender to this whole thing and know that whatever happens, I'll deal with it.  My doula is great and will help me get through anything.  And I am hoping all of my induction prep will either get me into labor or help things go faster if I have to be induced.  My doula also suggested to try castor oil as a last resort if I do end up having to schedule an induction.  We'll see.

Thank you again for the support!
