As I'm packing up Hayley's things - I just pulled her hooded towels off the shelf...that she grew out of around 5 months (that and half of them shouldn't have been considered "towels". My t-shirt was thicker!)
I'm also pulling all her infant hats out of the drawer. The only ones she really wore were the hospital ones. Her head was always 90th percentile - and last winter/spring was so warm - we really never used them. Now she hates hats and we fight to keep her winter one on.
I'm still organizing/packing - so I may add more - but how about for you?
FYI - this is making me feel really sad as we are moving on to toddlerhood
ETA: 80% of our blankets are brand new...knew I shoulda returned a few packs...
Re: Most Overrated Baby Item In Your Home?
I second the moby wrap (at least we got it second hand) but also the PNP. She wouldn't sleep in it when she was little and wont' tolerate it now. We did use it every.single.day though for diaper changes. Really, it was just an overpriced changing table at an uncomfortable height.
However, I may bust it out if we find some of the colored plastic balls to use as a ball pit...who knows!
The infant hats. He was/is such a hot baby that if I'd put a hat on him he might have spontaneously combusted.
Blankets, most of them were borrowed and will be going back to my sister, but see comment above. I never really swaddled him.
I too just went through "baby" stuff last night...my cousin and his GF are having a baby in March, and I'm going to sell them a bunch of my stuff. I don't really have anywhere to keep storing it..and who knows when/if I'll ever have another. I almost lost it...the thought that my little man is growing up and can't fit in that tiny baby bathtub anymore...and the thought of who knows if I'll ever get to do it all again. Ok, leaving thread now because I am losing it now!
My breast friend, sofie the giraffe (he never got into her), baby hats, crib bedding, baby sling (couldn't figure it out)
Moby wrap. I used it probably five times.
Bumbo. She just wasn't that into it and would squirm until we took her out.
The Ergo.
DS hated it. Except for one hike we took while I was still on maternity leave, so he was little. I try it at least once a month. Still hates it. When he was smaller I used the Maya wrap Sling instead. I need to bust it out again to hip carry him when he wants to be on me and I want to do things. He's heavy!
It's funny how different this list is than I would have thought. Like so many people never used their moby or infant tub. I had a K'tan (like a moby) and it was a life saver, I seriously would not have survived the first 3 months without it. I also was so sad when E didn't fit in the infant tub anymore. It made bath time so much easier.
My overrated baby gifts were shoes, seriously we have SO many never worn baby shoes. We also got a lot of newborn frilly dresses that still have tags on them. Oh, and the Bumbo. E was always so chunky it ws tight on her thighs.

baby bjorn &newborn hats
Newborn hats; newborn socks (she lived in sleepers while I was on maternity leave); travel swing (loved the big swing, which was at grandma's but hated the travel swing, luckily it was a hand-me-down from a co-worker); baby shoes.
It's funny that some of the things people said they didn't find useful were things we used or are still using! We still use the baby towels, I was seriously ready to cry when she outgrew the baby tub, and a couple others I can't remember.
DD1 never used a swing, but DD2 loved the one we borrowed.
Moby was useless for us both times around. I have two Boppys and I have uses them nonstop with both kids for nursing. DD1 weaned at 17 months, so it got a lot of use!
This!!! such a waste of space in our living room!
This answer would of been different with my son...but for Cordelia....the jumperoo, sit and stand stroller (my son likes it, but she likes being worn), pack n play (they ended up at our parents houses), baby monitor, and any bottles that we had (she didn't take any of them).
We loved loved loved the Moby wrap and ended up buying 2, so we had one for each car. We were lost if we forgot it at home. My DH even wore her quite a bit! I wish I had it when our son was a baby. Now we use the Ergo all the time. I want some of your Moby wraps!!!! I want different colors for the next baby
Baby hats for sure, Ava never wore them, and a lot didn't even fit because of all of her hair.
All the store bought blankets and receiving blankets. We have at least 10 handmade blankets that we use for anything.
Nuks, Ava never really took to them after the first couple of weeks.
My Ovulation Chart
Maybe I'm weird, but nearly everything you guys didn't use I did use!
She loved the infant sling, and we still use the moby now. She loved her bouncy seat, but started flipping over in it so it had to go at 6 or 7 months. She was very cold as a newborn and was swaddled in two blankets, a sleeper, socks and a hat every night for a long time. I used most of the receiving blankets as burp cloths. We still use the hooded towels (ours are rather thick), because she's cold and shivering if I don't cover her head after a bath. We still use our baby tub, but is has a flat bottom like a big tub. It's easier than filling the entire tub. I still use her changing table every day. She slept in her pnp until four months, still sleeps in it now on occassion for naps and she plays in it with a ton of toys in it while I let the dogs out or go to the restroom. And she's worn shoes daily since about 7 months when she started pulling up on everything all the time. They are soft soled and she would always slip at home and day care in the grippy socks and she's too cold natured to not have any socks on.
The only thing she hated was the travel swing. She tolerated it on maybe five occassions, two of those were for naps. I didn't have a regular swing. And I never bought a bumbo or jumperoo. She still uses her exersaucer as recently as last night. Oh and she prefers straw cups over sippy cups so we never used those. Thankfully they were gifts though. And she has a few frilly Spring dresses that she hasn't worn.
It's funny how each kid and family is so different.
