Success after IF

Getting to know you & QOTD

Do we do any types of "getting to know you" posts here? Being "new" and all, I'd like to get to know you all and where you're at in your journey! :)

Plus a QOTD: What do you want from Santa (if you celebrate that way)?

Here's me, unless we do these posts another time:

ME: I'm about to TTC #2 (see previous intro post), have a 22-mo DD from IUI after 1.5 years of trying. DX was MFI (0-2% morph). Nervous to go through it all again & nervous about delivery (was knocked out for my csection which came because of FTP/malposition 25 hours after my water broke).

And hoping upon hope that I can have a chance to get knocked up and feel the joy & shock of finding out solely by POAS. ;)

QOTD: I'd like Santa to bring me...a new Dirt Devil floor vac/hand vac to replace my Swiffer. And a haircut. ;)

I remember watching your journey as I lurked. Congrats!!!

Sometimes I think I'm strange because I love gifts for the home! A couple years ago the in-laws got me a Shark, which I wanted and love. Hope Santa gets you some cool decor! ;)

  • I have a 17 month old DS after 2 years of TTC, 3 IUIs, clomid, and injects. We have started TTC number 2 since May on our own and started back at the RE last month.

QOTD: I really wanted a Ninja blender and since it was on sale at Costco last month I bought it. Happy early Christmas to me! Love it BTW.

I love her name! Good luck on your FET -- I forget the transfer timeline, when would your beta be?

KinderMusic sounds fun! I envy your motivation for a gym membership. I need one, but I know I wouldn't use it. I'm a lump.

  • I have been around forever...TTGP, TTTC, Infertility Board, PAIF, and now here and my BMB. After undergoing IVF 1 last year, I have a beautiful 3 month old son named Barrett. Every day is an absolute joy with him. As for TTC 2, I have 2 frosties waiting for me from our IVF. We plan on doing FET 1 the spring after Barrett turns 2.

QOTD: I would like Santa to bring me some peridot jewelry to commemorate my son's August birth

    Ah, good ol' TTGP! ;)

Sounds like you're on our kind of timeline for TTC #2 -- which is nice because they'll be big helper siblings, but the farther I get away from the newborn stage the more I can't imagine having a newborn again, lol. Yet still so excited for it!

  • I have anovulatory PCOS and conceived my daughter after 2 years of trying and loss via IUI.  LO is 4 months and amazing.  We aren't trying for #2 yet, but I secretly dream of accidentally getting pregnant.  Although since I don't ovulate, I don't see it happening.

QOTD:  I don't really want any things.  I feel so fulfilled by finally having a baby, and she's everything I ever hoped and dreamed for, I don't need anything else.  (Sorry that's so cliche and mushy, but it's really true.)  If Santa could bring it though, I'd like a few extra hours in each day, time to work out so I can get my old body back or at least fit into some of my clothes, and I'd like for MH and I to be able to connect again like we did before.  Things aren't bad or anything, it's just such an adjustment and it's hard finding a new normal with a LO in the mix.

TTC with PCOS since November 2009
    IUI#1 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP, m/c
    IUI#2 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 5-9) = BFN

Me:  Finally convinced the hubs that we should try for a third (even though he is more than content with our two).  We'll see what actually happens.  The BS, $ and stress we are willing to go through to attempt to make it happen is TBD.

I have a whole bunch of crap'ola wrong with me (in siggy) which is annoying especially because we started trying when I was 25 (now 28) and I never in a million years would have thought I would have a hard time getting pregnant.  DH has two varicoceles (spelling?) so that is apparently why his everything is 'low.'  We were lucky and got pregnant on our last IUI before heading in for an IVF consult.  Then we got pregnant on our own when our daughter was a little under 7 months old and to this day I have no idea how that happened.  I was charting and peeing on OPKs and I swear we had sex the day after I ovulated, but we were over the moon and our little boy is the best freebie one could have ever asked for.

side note:  I was also sooooo nervous about labor and delivery for no. 2 because I had a horrid labor with no. 1 and while no. 2 was also horrid, everything went a little faster ;)

I want Santa to bring me a new purse.  I have one picked out so we'll see if he has been taking my hints ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean about not being able to imagine having a newborn again. Originally, DH and I said we would do our FET the spring after Barrett's 3rd birthday, but decided that was too far apart and moved it up a year. I just want to enjoy all of Barrett's milestones, but I don't want to wait so long that he has all these memories of being the only child, and has a harder time adjusting. There's also the issue of what we do if the FET doesn't work. We got REALLY lucky to get KU on the first IVF, but DH and I are just not sure if we can go through another grueling IVF cycle, especially with a toddler to take care of. Oh well, we shall see what the future brings!

And all the "things" on your list? Yep, same here. All of them. (And it gets better as LO passes the 6mo & 1yr marks -- the joys, obviously, and all the stuff with you. Your body will start to move back a bit and you'll have more time with YH. I've been in the same boat.)

Beckett is 4 months old (almost!) and wonderful!  He came to us via our 3rd IUI. I have CM issues because of my Cystic Fibrosis.  We are one and done :)

DH and I decided to get a gift together this year.  We bought a new blu-ray player for our bedroom in a black friday sale.  I have no idea what to put on my list for my mom and grandma.  None. Well maybe a new diaper bag.. and to hit the lottery so I don't have to go back go work.

Congrats! I also had CM issues, I think from my LEEP. One and done is nice! :)

Nice, an early Christmas present! Maybe you can ask for some Blu-Ray DVDs as well! Good luck on the lottery! :)

  • Thanks for doing this I am new to this board but here is my story...

I am 28 and DH is 30.  We were TTC #1 for many years and finally did Round 1 of Clomid and got our BFP.  Our DS is 3 years old and the biggest joy in our life.  We started TTC #2 just under a year after DS was born and after several failed cycles and tears we are cautiously expecting baby #2.  We got our BFP last week and go in for beta # 2 tomorrow.  We are so excited just anxious to get through these critical next couple of weeks.

QOTD: I'd like Santa to bring me a new camera but more realistically some new clothes or a new pair of shoes.

  • This is fun :)

TTC on our own for many years, 3 IUI's all BFN's, moved to IVF, finally success, no frosties but beautiful b/g twin's now almost 14 months old.  Decided to go back to the RE in August for IVF #2 transferred 2 embies 3 made it to freeze, bfp ended in chemical.  FET of remaining 3 frosties in November, BFN :(  Resources exhausted so no more IVF's in our future.  DH & I have unexplained IF, although RE hinted to MFI after this last failure.  We are now taking every supplement known to man in the hopes of a miracle bfp between now & March when we will try a few more IUI's.

QOTW:  Well I guess I would ask Santa for a surprize bfp :) but in lieu of that, we moved house last August & I would love some $ to buy a new rug for our living room.

  • I was fortunate enough to conceive on my first IVF last December.  Our dx is severe MFI so it is extremely unlikely, probably close to impossible that I will conceive naturally.  My daughter was born 2 months early so I have a 5 1/2 month old.  I am planning to do a SET late next summer or early fall.  I also have 2 frosties frozen together which I will use if my SET does not result in a take home baby.  Not sure what the next step would be after that.

We only observe Jewish religious holidays so no Santa. I would love tickets to either the ballet or symphony so I can enjoy some live entertainment meant for adults. We are fortunate that DH's father and SM will baby sit when given enough notice so we can enjoy a night out.

We waited until the next summer to go to an RE because I got massively sick with gall bladder issues. I did one IVF with no fresh transfer, just an FET and became pg with our little miracle, Kinsley, in December last year. She is three months old and we love her to pieces. We still have some frozen babies, so we will try again next summer.

  • I have PCOS snd DH has MFI. We did 3 cycles of clomid and TI, an IUI with clomid, and then moved on to IVF over a span of 3 years.  We did IVF las August and it resulted in our DD Adalyn and 6 snow babies.

I was admitted on hospital bed rest on January 11 at 22 w 6 days because it was discovered on a routine ultrasound that I had very little amniotic fluid.  I stayed in the hospital on bed rest until Adalyn was born on 2/4 at 26 w 2days.  She came in at 1 pound and 12 ounces and 12 inches long.  We spent 83 days in the NICU before we brought her home on oxygen, a pulse ox, and an apnea monitor.  She is now almost 10 months old and the spunkiest little girl! She's been off the oxygen since July and we were finally allowed to stop with the overnight apnea monitor in October.   She FINALLY made it on the growth chart at our last appt (2nd percentile!) and is closing the gap in many of her developmental milestones.  She is on the cusp of crawling.

We actually are going to do an FET late January/early February with one of our 6 snow babies.  I'm somewhat nervous that I will once again have a dramatic pregnancy, but I hope that it goes smoothly and that I will actually be awake for the birth.  (emergency c-section due to chorionamnioitis infection). I will already be considered high risk (because of what happened with Adalyn) and will be getting a special weekly shot to prevent my water from breaking early.  Looks like I was destined to get shots in the pregnancy journey!

  • I have a 13 month old, Gavin, from our second IVF cycle after 2 years of trying. We are TTC on our own have been for about 9 months and will hopefully do a FET in early 2014. We are 100 OOP for fertility treatments so we are saving and enjoying our boy for now. I'm hoping, wishing, praying for a "natural" pregnancy in the meantime.

I want a new everyday plack or brown purse. I have a michael kors or marc jacobs picked out. I also want an iphone 5, and some house stuff. Those are just a few ideas. Oh, I also really need my hair colored!! :

  • I'm going to have to come back and read through all the replies when I have more time and it's not midnight!

Me:  We were on bcp the first few months of our marriage but I was baby crazy and we decided to stop trying to avoid around March 2005.  I always had long/missing cycles.  I thought I was lucky, until I was trying to make a baby.  I peed on probably a thousand sticks over two years and of course knew I should talk to the doctor about it.  One time I got my period and it lasted for 4 weeks.  Between that and reading an article on PCOS I decided to call the doctor.  I was diagnosed with PCOS and we were advised to try birth control up to a year.  I was still in college, so it wasn't anything we wanted to push so I went back on bcp.  Then I went off after a year after graduation.  Had to do more testing, was diagnosed with hypothryoidism.  We were finally set to start Clomid but we up and decided to move to Alaska and had to put that on hold for a few months.  DS was conceived after 2 cycles of Clomid with a month off in between because I was certain I was pregnant despite the dozens of BFNs, lol.  We moved back to VA midway through the pregnancy.

At first I wanted them close together but then we went through a financial downturn and I decided to go on bcp, around the same time AF mysteriously showed up on her own for the first time in about 5 years.  After DH started a new job with good pay and benefits in August we decided to TTC #2.  The plan was to try on our own until January and then see an RE.  I went of bcp and had just started charting signs of ovulation.  I hadn't even charted temps or taken anything too seriously because DH was actually gone most of the month for work training.  One day I had very clear signs of ovulation, DH flew home that night (quite coincidental- I o'd a week late).  I got 2 BFN's and gave up for that cycle.  A few weeks later I was sick with a kidney infection and after getting better decided to do better about consistently temping and noticed my temps were higher than normal.  I went in to get my urine checked again and they said it was fine but they would culture it and wait for a blood result.  While waiting for that I decided to POAS and it was the most surprising BFP ever!  2 early ultrasounds had it measuring 12 days behind my expected O date and instead while I was puking from the kidney infection.  I finally made my peace with that and guessed it meant some how I missed signs of O and that DH's sperm just lived super long (8 days).  But, I had an ultrasound done last week and baby is now measuring 3 days behind my date so I'm going with the thought that it just needed to catch up some and took a few days to implant.  DS's dates did the same thing.

All that to tell women with PCOS to not give up hope.  You can still ovulate on your own, even if you never have before!  And at the same time, if you don't want another one, prevent because you can still ovulate on your own!

QOTD:  Santa needs to bring me a new bed because I hate our current one!

  • Whew! I finally get to play! I was slammed at work and even forgot to go to a dental appointment, so there was no time to bump.

Me: been on TB mostly ttc over 35 since may 2010. Went to RE jan 2011. Had endo surgery/diagnosis April 2011. Tried ttc after surgery till October 2011. Was trying to figure out how and when to do ivf.

Found out my RE was doing a clinical trial in September. Did all the testing to get into the trial in a couple of weeks and went straight into my one and only ivf. I didn't have time to really process it all before I was giving myself daily injections. I miraculously got my bfp with a 3 day eSET and DS arrived late and induced July 29, 2012. He's just over 4 months old and he's the best thing that's ever happened.

We have 3 frosties from my cycle, but we haven't determined when we will try for 2 with a FET. I'm not getting any younger, so my goal is to be pregnant again before I'm 40.

QOTD: I really want Santa to bring me new bicycle stuff and to fix my old bike. I had an accident on it while I was 24 weeks pregnant which ended my bicycling while pregnant career. I'm riding again since November 1st when I went back to work but I'm not on my favorite bicycle. Mama also needs a new cycling rain coat.

and I'd like for MH and I to be able to connect again like we did before.nbsp; Things aren't bad or anything, it's just such an adjustment and it's hard finding a new normal with a LO in the mix.
You might want to check and see if you have a "Bringing Baby Home" relationship workshop near you. It was developed by an amazing relationship scholar, John Gottman, and it is really helpful in providing learning tools to get on track especially with an LO in the mix. My husband and I really got a lot out of it, and we both sing its praises. Dr. Gottman is a local university professor where I live so its widely available here. I'm not sure how available it is elsewhere.

  • I am ~8wks pg with DC#3. This baby is the result of my first IUI. This will be the last pregnancy for us and I'm thrilled to be able to experience it all one last time. :)

For Christmas I'd really like a native tree for my yard (and for to DH to dig a hole and plant it as part of the gift) and a reproduction lampshade for my bridge lamp or an antique candlestick telephone. (Nerd! Nerd! Nerd!)

ETA: Oops, I was too brief. TTC#1was so long ago that there was no bump, I was on the BOTB board on the nest and was also looking into adoption since I was always worried (for no real reason) that I'd be IF. After 3 unsuccessful rounds of clomid with my OBGYN he recommended a HSC because I had some uterine polyps and he suspected endo so recommended a LAP at the same time. I was really reluctant to have surgery and just wanted to move forward with adoption instead, but since DH was never worried about IF he wasn't ready to give up on a bio baby and talked me into the surgery. We conceived the 2nd cycle post surgery w/o meds. (Yesterday was actually the 6th anniversary of his conception.) That was the 18th cycle.

TTC#2 I was on the 2IF board. I was seeing a different OB and she wasted my time requiring another 3 unsuccessful, unmonitored rounds of clomid. I switched back to the original OB and he had me do one more round of clomid while he did a lot of testing. I went back to the adoption agency and was waiting for the next open enrollment. My adoption agency doesn't allow you to do IF treatments once you sign up. Then I ended up missing the enrollment waiting to do one last test with my RE and would have to wait another 3-4 months until the next one so I asked for a referral to an RE since I finally got an Unexplained IF diagnosis. I requested injectibles with TI and had success the first time. That was also the 18th cycle.

If you can see my siggy you'll see that the inj +TI didn't work for me this time. I also had terrible AMH # from the clomid challenge test. I finally did an IUI, even though my church doesn't approve, and was fortunate to have success the first time. This was the 15th cycle.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this many responses to a post on this board in a loooong time!

I have DOR and am classified as a "PCOS variant" (previously diagnosed as PCO) and DH has severe MFI.

We started TTC in 2009 and I went to see my OB after 6 months or so of "trying" due to cycles that eventually lengthened to 60+ days. We were referred to a RE a few months later after a few Provera induced AFs and a monitored Clomid cycle (prior to DH's SA results coming back - it was a complete waste). Our RE recommended moving straight to IVF after our dx and we have an amazing 19 month old son as the result of our first IVF w/ICSI cycle.

I had a difficult pregnancy (developed PIH) and was on bedrest for about 2 months prior to being induced at 37 weeks. DS was in the NICU for a few days after he was born due to respiratory distress and I ended up being re-admitted to the hospital a day (or maybe two) after he was released due to complications of PIH (had to have a course of IV Lasix). Despite those issues, DH and I have always wanted more than one child, so we decided to try for #2 after DS turned 1 :-)

We didn't have anything left to freeze from our first IVF cycle, so we started a fresh MDLF cycle w/ICSI in August of this year. I am overwhelmingly grateful to be almost 15 weeks pregnant with twins and we have 1 frozen embryo.

QOTD: I found a great deal on a used DSLR and asked for that as a community gift this year (DH and my mom and dad are sharing the cost).
