Lo came down with a fever last week, lasted 3 days. At first she was tired but no other symptoms, then she got really fussy so we took her to the doctor. They said it was just a virus and sent us home with antibiotic. The next day no fever but she got diarrhea and then a rash, started off blotchy red, now just a bunch of tiny red bumps all over her. I guess it could be an allergy to amoxicillin or ibuprofen (first time she had either). Or maybe some food she had or something in my breastmilk? She had a bite of sausage? The doctor told us to stop the antibiotic, better but bumps are still there though. She's been so fussy I'm pulling my hair out

I hope shes better tomorrow. Anyone else familar with amoxicillin allergy? I really hope she doesnt have one.
Re: Amoxicillin Allergy?
I don't really have any advice, but wanted to let you know it could be a reaction to the medicine. She may be extra fussy because she is itchy...
I would suggest maybe putting aquaphor on the bumps? It can't hurt... FL!

Sounds like what happened to my DD... she got a rash within 24 hours of starting it. My older DD also gets hives whenever she takes any version of penicillin....
My question is - why would a doctor prescribe antibiotics for a virus???!
I have to say, I'm also wondering why she got an antibiotic for a virus.
Did they look in her throat? Is it possible she had strep? Sometimes those little red bumps can be scarlet fever (which is essentially strep but it shows up on the skin).
DD had that happen once. She had an ear infection and they prescribed amoxicilin, but then broke out into a rash a few days later. She had never had a reaction before, so I'm inclined to think it was scarlet fever (the doctor thought she had strep but didn't bother doing a culture because it's treated the same way as an ear infection). Now if she gets an ear infection she has to have a different antibiotic.
