Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month check up

So peanut had her 4 month check up today and she is progressing very well.. a whopping 11 lbs 11 oz! Doctor said that her head was a little on the small side so he was worried about premature closure of her skull bones which would mean she would not have enough room for her brain to grow. If at her 6 month check up her head has not grown or decreased the doctor would order a CT scan and if it showed that in fact her skull bones have closed prematurely he will want to have her have surgery done to re open that up to give her brain room to grow.... That is a lot for a mumma to take in! I cried right along with her when she got her shots because I am an emotional wreck today! ugh!

Re: 4 month check up

  • Awe, sorry...but at least it's over. Our 4 month appointment is next Tuesday and we dread the shots.

We will pray that your LO is developing fine and there will not be any surgery in her future!

  • I believe 37 CM (Don't have the paper in front of me). He even put it in as she was born 35 weeks, because she was premature. If I remember correctly she had a smaller head when I was pregnant as well.

  • Aww, hope your LO doesn't have to have surgery. I know it's hard, but try not to obsess about it between now and the next appt.

  • My daughter Madeline was diagnosed with the same thing at her 4 month check up. It's called craniosynostosis. Her pediatrician could not find her soft spots by touch so she had a CT which confirmed that they were already closed. She had surgery at almost 7 months old and did great. She has had no learning or developmental delays and is now a very active almost 2 year old. I know it's scary to think of your child having surgery, but it is the only option to fix it. Please contact me if you would like any info. There are a few resources and support groups online and on facebook and i can get those to you if you want. HTH.
