Nanny 1st day here

She will be coming a few days a week before I go back to work.  OMG.  She has spent the last half hour trying to put DD down for a nap.  She's crying.  I had to go outside because this is NOT EASY.

I hope it gets better.  I just have to let her do her thing, right?  I mean, she'll have a different style of putting the baby down than I do.  I haven't even figured it out yet.

Any advice for moms who have been through this would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: Nanny 1st day here

  • I don't know how valuable my advice is because I've only been back to work for a week, but I can tell you what I did.  I had our nanny with me for a few days before I went back and when we had a similar situation, I just went in to the baby's room and showed her what worked for me to get him down to sleep. I really just thought that it would be helpful for her to know what has worked for me so far with him (and I made it clear to her that I wasn't trying to microp-manage, rather just show her what he likes/dislikes, etc.).

I totally understand how you feel right now.  I hate that it's not me that soothing my baby back to sleep.  It was so hard for me last week.  But, he is totally fine!  And, before last week he was taking only a few short naps throughout the day.  I work from home on Fridays and he slept for 2 hours in the morning - he NEVER did this before!  So, I actually think that our nanny is already helping with getting him on a more predicatble schedule.  It's not perfect and it probaly never will be, but I can tell you that in one short week I've been able to see some positive with this.

    Hang in there and GL.

  • Thank you for that nice reply.  She actually did put baby down, thank god.  I had to go in and show her how I do it, and it worked.  I hope things go OK!
  • I haven't done it yet but I would say the same thing that the PP said - I would show her what works for Maya and let her go from there.

My MIL likes to hold Avery in the cradle postion and Avery prefers to be up over your shoulder - I keep trying to tell MIL that and it never works :(

    Good luck to you!!!
