I had my youngest child at 35 and we thought our family was complete. As my 40th approaches I am experiencing a yearning I cant explain for another child. Im worried about the difference 5 years can make and was just wondering if any other expectant mommas close to 40 had older children and how you find this pregnancy compares to previous pregancies you experienced at a younger age?
Re: Any expectant moms 40 and over with older children?
I am 42 and just found out that I was pregnant with baby #4. My three other children are 22, 17, and 13 (all 5 years apart). I have found that 5 years really worked for me. My children are all very close to one another and I found that with the 5 year difference, the older child liked helping out with the younger one. They are thrilled with the arrival of this baby.
So far I have not had any of the symptoms that I have had with my previous pregnancies. The only thing that I have experienced is a lack of appetite. Besides that, it has been great!

All ALers welcome!
This is my first, but... I'm the youngest of 5. The first four were born within 6 years of each other, and I came 7 years after the last! There were times when I wished I was older... but 99% of the time it was fantastic being the youngest! I got to do cool things with my older sibs and by that time my parents were pretty relaxed. And my siblings had a built in babysitter once they got married and had kids
The funny thing... my mom was the youngest as well. She has 5 older siblings, and she was born when my grandma was 39, 5 years after the last.
Congrats & enjoy it!

I have a 14 year old and a 12 year old. I will be 43 when I deliver our "surprise" addition. My husband and I were happy with our DD and DS, and felt we had the perfect family. It has taken some getting used to, but at this point, all of us, including the kids, can't wait for her to arrive!
The main thing I noticed is that my morning sickness was much less severe than with my first pregnancy....but I've had a lot of painful, stabbing cramping, especially in the beginning. I have a much bigger gap than you, so you maybe your uterus will stretch with less protest than mine seems to be having!

**DS - 11/9/00**
**DD2 - 4/30/13**
This is so nice to hear. I am 43 and will be 44 when I deliver our 2nd. Our first will be 11 yrs. old, by the time the baby is born. This was quite a surprise, as we were very happy with one, and our life as it is now. I guess God had other plans for us! I found out last Sun. (1/6), and didn't tell my husband until Mon. I didn't know how to tell him, especially since we were definitely not trying! I am a bit scared, thinking of the risks because of my age, going through all the baby years again, etc..., but trying to stay positive and do all that I can to stay healthy, and fit for the best possible outcome. It's nice to know we are not the only ones at this stage in the game with such a big gap in ages. We have been married for 13 yrs., so fortunately we are not just starting out, etc...
Thanks for listening! And, as we like to say, "God luck!"
I'm 41, and just had my 6th. My kids are 14, 9, 7, 4, 2 & 2weeks. I would still REALLY love more - I don't think the baby hunger ever really goes away - from what most of my friends have said. That being said, I think the time has come for us to be done.
5 years is actually a nice age difference between my older children, but if I was in your boat, and wanted another I'd be inclined to plan for 2 more, closer together so as not to leave a singleton alone for years after the other kids leave home.
I'm 43 and going to be 44 when #3 arrives. My youngest is 12 and this LO is a surprise blessing! I was nervous to tell my husband, too, but he was thrilled. We had the NT scan and pap-a test last week and everything looks great! This will be the first baby for us. We both have 2 teenagers from a prior marriage. This LO will bring our whole family even closer together!
