Hello ladies,
After hacking up my lungs for the past week, and getting tired of changing underwear (tmi?? lol) I have been awarded a prescription for Tussin Pearls. They are supposedly safe for pregnancy and are really good at halting coughs.
Anyone take this medication before? I'm a pretty granola person (organic, med free, etc.) but after coughing so hard that I threw up this past weekend I am throwing in the towel.
Edit: Also referred to as "Tessalon Perles." After doing a quick search I see it is a Category C drug, and that "risk cannot be ruled out." Oh geesh.
Re: Tussin Pearls
They are cat C, I believe. Also, they don't work for everyone.
The way I look at it, NOT getting better isn't an option. I had bronchitis and was sick for like a month. I was on tessalon pearls, antibiotics and steroids. I still ended up with a rib injury from coughing and then had to take muscle relaxers just to function. I suggest taking what you need to in order to get better ASAP.
I've had them before, but not when I was pregnant. I thought they worked pretty darn good.
For me it was the not being able to breathe that threw me in! Sat-Sunday night I called L&D to ask if it was safe to take some children's allergy meds for the decongestant. I was so miserable that when I first talked to someone, I forgot to tell her that I was pregnant and she listened to my crying rant before interjecting... "And why are you calling us?" Oh yeah, 34 wks pregnant. She laughed when I told her that.
Thank GOD the antihistemine worked and I was finally able to get some sleep. I slept most of yesterday (and let DH take care of DD) and I am finally starting to feel better today.
