magic sleep suit transfer to sleep sack

who has done it.

this is no bueno.

DD is growing out of her 3-6 month magic sleep suit, so i figured now is the time to transfer out (so i dont have to spend another $70 on two 6-9 month sleep suits). well, it's going terribly. i put her in the crib in her sleep sack and her legs are like *SPRING!* right up, and she can't put herself to sleep like how she usually does (i place her in awake), so she starts crying.

any tips from anyone who has transferred out of their sleep suit? thanks!

you pretty much rip your hair out lol...so far DD has slept for like 2 minutes and then 8 minutes. oyyyyy...i know it's just something she has to get used to, but man...this is rough. DH just says, "sleep suits for life!"

ARGH.  This was us last night.  I actually already bought the larger size a while ago (I am super anxious and have to get everything in advace or I freak out) but now as DS is outgrowing the smaller size, I am wanting to try and just transition him to sleep sacks now.  Fail.

DS fell asleep in DH's arms last night due to being extremely tired.  So I just picked him up, put him in the crib and since I didn't want to wake him (which putting him in a sleep suit when he's asleep is the best way to wake him up!) I just put him in a sleep sack.  Golden...or so I thought.  He stayed asleep for 2 hours but then when he woke up he was flailing arms and legs every where and would not go back to sleep.  I went in there and he was awake.  Like the awake I am talking about when you can just see it in their face they will not be falling back asleep ANYTIME soon!  I didn't want to deal with trying to get him to sleep for an hour or longer in the darn sack so I just caved and put him in the sleep suit and he literally passed back out probably before I even left the room.

Ugh.  While I have adored the sleep suit and how it helped us transition from swaddling, I am now in the predicament I have feared for 6 whole months!

I know I have the next size and can just put him in that and not worry about it for another 3 or so months but I am feeling like a) I want to just transition him out of it now just to get it over with instead of just prolonging the inevitable and b) it kind of bothers me that he can roll over in it from back to tummy and then is unable to roll back.  I have had to go in there many times to turn him back over b/c he has rolled to him tummy and then gets pi$$ed when he is stuck there!  It's not that I mind doing so much as that it makes me nervous if he rolls in his sleep (which he does all the time) and gets stuck there.

Obviously no good advice from me.  Just commiserating.  I can't talk about these things much with MH since I have the most easy going husband in the world... it's nice he's like that but he isn't much help when I am concerned about something and have to make decisions!!!

this is seriously all me (except i didnt order the next size up yet lol). but everything else i could have written! i caved yesterday and put DD back into the sleep suit too. ugh. today i'm pretty determined, but i feel like the wicked witch! i guess there is just no easy way to transition out :(

  • What about putting her in the sleepsuit but not zipping the front up to start the transition?

  • When Meredith outgrew her three to six month sleep suit, we tried a sleep sack and it was an epic failure. So, we just bought a six to nine month one and that's been working out ok. Not are what we are going to do next...

  • well here is how her first "nap" went. in 2 hours, she only slept a total of maybe 15 minutes. 5 minutes here, 8 minutes there...etc. she wasn't hysterically crying the other times in the 2 hours, but she was fussing. i could tell when she would wake herself up, she would be pissed. her cry was like an, "UGHHHH!" sound like she was frustrated. gah...

when i went in there to take her out, she was laughing and happy and all smiles! so, i'm glad i didnt give in early. then she was up for about an hour, fed, etc.

we're on nap #2 now, and after just 4 minutes of fussing, she passed out (probably because she was exhausted from her no nap earlier). she's been asleep for a record 40 minutes now! lol! i'm hoping this is just similar to when i transferred her to her crib at 10 weeks. not napping much in the beginning, then longer and longer naps. only took like 2 days of shorter than usual naps and she was transferred to her crib. HOPING this will just be like that. so far she is following that pattern with this nap #2. apparently she just needs to be so exhausted that she just doesnt care anymore hahaha...

hoping nap #3 goes well later on today too. that will be the true test because she could just be exhausted for this one.
  • we're on nap #3 now, and she only whined minimally for about 8 minutes before passing out. hopefully it's a long nap! nap #2 ended up being an hour. she normally had 1.5-2 hour naps, so it's not too bad in comparison!

i guess what i found out is just stick with it, and the baby will get used to it. i didnt think she would get used to it this quickly. however! for bedtime, i'm still putting her in the sleep suit tonight. if she continues to have good naps tomorrow, i might be brave and try the no sleep suit at beditme lol...MIGHT be brave.
