is 10am too early for birthday party

DS birthday is in June but we have to rent the pavillion now since all the parks get booked for graduation and end of the year picnics. We need to do it soon.

DS is turning 4 and we are wanting to do it at a park. They have a shelter, playground and stuff. We wanted to do it early so its not too hot and humid plus people have graduation parties later in the day usually.

Is 10 too early on a sat. morning? It wouldnt bother me to go to a party that early but my son is up early. We thought we could do donut holes, fruit salad, something else and juice when we get there then the kids could play, do the pinata, eat cupcakes, open presents and be done by 12. What do you think?

Re: is 10am too early for birthday party

  • We are all early risers, and I think even later sleepers can make it to a kids birthday party by 10. I would actually like that, I think, would still have lots of the day left afterward!

  • We are having DS's birthday party tomorrow at 10 AM. We usually do ours at dinnertime, but are having it at a venue for the first time ever. I would definitely avoid the afternoon because of naps and general schedules.

  • I like this idea a lot. Everyone has already said the smart stuff.

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • Especially that time of year when you can end up with one end or the other for temps, I'd say "go for it" (but also the whole just after lunch afternoon nap factor is HUGE!  I also would book an extra hour or two to "clean up" just in case...

  • I think it's a great idea too... in fact, I would steal your idea if half of my family with small children didn't live more than 30 minutes away.

    Very unique and cute, IMO.

  • I think it is a perfect time.  I hate when young kids birthday parties are scheduled at nap time... I have no desire to force my 2 kids under 5 to attempt to skip their nap and still be cheerful at a party.

  • Nope.  I have done a 9:30am party before : )

  • I think a morning party is actually better. I don't know anyone with a kid who sleeps until 10, but lots of kids still take afternoon naps anywhere between noon and 4.

  • I think it's great actually. Everyone can enjoy your party and still have a bulk of the day to themselves.

  • This kind of party would only be a problem for my family. We all get up at 10.

And here is your one SS.

Seriously though, please pass the 10 am party idea on to all my friends so I can avoid DevilChild2013 every time one of her little friends gets older.

We are just a weird family. We pay for it in naps though.

Not weird. Magical. Who needs naps when you have quality morning sleep?!

Yup, that was our thoughts too. Kid goes down at 8 and up at 10. We can stay up late. It was nice.

You are so lucky...my kid doesnt nap goes to bed at 7:30 or 8 and is up at 6:30 or 7. Plus he wakes up a million times. I miss sleep. I think we will go for 10 and if someone cant make it thats ok.

  • We are doing DD's bday at 10:30 a.m. so we can get everyone out by nap time.

  • I am going to 2 morning parties and I think it's a great idea. Wear em out early.

  • No, I actually think it's very ideal!
  • I think 10am is great! Then I don't have to worry about missing naps or taking up my whole day.

  • I agree with the majority of the ladies here.  It helps with the toddlers who take afternoon naps, it avoids the hottest parts of the day and it doesn't monoploize the entire day to where it's right in the middle and there isn't any time for anything else.  I like it!

  • Sounds like a great time! It would avoid napkins and would generally be a nice time to go to a party.
