if your child had croup

had long did it last? Did they take anything to alleviate the symptoms?

It's been pure misery in my house and I don't know how to make him feel better other than to give him Tylenol. When is this going to be over???

Re: if your child had croup

  • Both my kids had it last September. DS had it the worst. He had a breathing treatment and a dose of oral steroids at Extended Care and was sent home with an rx for Prednisone and Liquid Albuterol. The combo of these two made him act like a complete lunatic and he didn't sleep well the entire time he was on them. They did help the croup symptoms. He was only miserable sick for about 36ish hours.

DD's wasn't nearly as bad. She got it a couple days after DS did and she only got one dose of oral steroids at the drs office. She was fine within a day or so.

If you don't want to go the dr/meds route, you can try putting him in the bathroom with a very hot shower running. The steam can help with the coughing.

    Good luck!

  • It's just pure hell, isn't it?  C just got over it.  We initially went to the Doctor and he gave him a steriod injection in his thigh.  When he got the Stridor, we did the hot steamy shower for 30 min. plus, but I swear it was going outside in the cold, cold moist night air that did it.  It goes against all that you think you should do, but not only did the ladies here recommend it, the Dr. recommended it as well.  The Stridor lasted about 5 days, and he had a cough and runny nose 10 days out.  Good luck, this totally blows.  Also, we gave him Advil, not Tylenol for the fever.  He also was cutting a molar at the same time :-/

  • He's doing a little better right now, but gosh, I hope he never gets this again.  Thanks for the good info and well wishes Smile

  • Luca has already had it twice this year, it sucks. He didn't have it too severe luckily. The Dr. prescribed a steroid for him, and I gave him tylonal. The steam from the hot shower in the bathroom helped, as well as taking him out in the cool air at night (if you live somewhere where it gets cool). We left the window open a crack for him at night.

Good Luck, hope he feels better soon!
