How dangerous is it to leave baby sleeping in swing?

My LO will NOT go back to sleep after 3am in the morning unless he is in his automatic swing which I?ve had for about a few days now. For whatever reason, thsi is the only time where he seems to NEED the swing to get to and stay asleep. I wait for him to fall asleep and then I shut it off. The problem is that as soon as the seat stops swinging he wakes back up and starts crying until I turn it back on. I?ve waited for as long as a half hour and he still wakes up. How dangerous is it to leave him with the swing on? I just don?t know what else to do to make him sleep. I have the swing right next to my bed where I can see him BTW but obviously I do want to go back to sleep myself!

  • Ds napped and slept in his swing frequently for the first 3 or 4 months of his life. The 2 of you need sleep, however it happens.

  • I was thinking about trying this exact thing with the swing maybe a few mnths til like 4mnths!

  • DD naps in her swing during the day. I don't think it's dangerous, but it might be a PITA to transition back to a crib once your LO outgrows the swing.

  • DS is sleeping in his swing most of the night right by our bed as well and I don't see it as a danger either.

  • Its the only place DD will sleep at night .... The good news is I don't have to rock her she stares at the mobile and falls asleep on her own even after middle of the night feeds. The swing is next to our bed, she's strapped in and I leave it on a slow speed the whole time.

  • Oh what a relief to know I"m not alone! Are your swings super loud? Mine creaks quite loudly. It annoys me but LO doesn't care!

I agree that it will be a huge pain to transition him out of it when he outgrows it. But motion seems to be the only thing that helps this kid. I never had this issue with my first...

  • Doesn't seem like a problem as long as you have him buckled in.

  • One suggestion that worked for us was a vibration attachment for the pack-n-play.  It is just enough movement to get him back to sleep.

  • I don't think I've ever heard of leaving a baby sleeping in a swing dangerous. My LO will not sleep on his own if he's not in his swing. I really don't care that he needs it to sleep right now; I need my sleep too. I'm a little nervous about when he outgrows the swing though.

  • Just make sure to buckle baby in (though it's not like they'd be rolling yet!) and get some sleep.

DS only slept in his bouncer or swing until he was 5 months old. It's fine.

This for us too. DS had significant reflux and slept much better upright in his swing. Just be sure to buckle and you should be fine.
