I'm soooo desperate to have a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes but don't know if they're ok to eat when preg due to the peanuts in them. They r only 7 of the ingredients but not sure whether this is safe or not?? I haven't had any food cravings at all but today I really fancied them all day! Anyone know if they're ok to eat or what would u do?? X
Re: Crunchy nut cornflakes??
Who told you that you couldn't eat peanuts??
I'm sure you're fine either way, but there should definitely be no concern if neither you nor DH has any history of peanut allergies.
Actually children whose mothers ate peanuts while pregnant have a less chance of allergies.
Now I want a damn PB&J! And a little bit of this

That's an old wives tale. You can eat nuts, eggs, shellfish, and any other common food allergen, as long as YOU aren't allergic to them. Your OB should give you a list of what to avoid- undercooked meat, large fish that may contain mercury, alcohol, etc.
I had a woman lecture me when I was pg with DD that you are supposed to eat food allergens when pg to reduce LOs chances of having an allergy, only she was try to make me eat something that I have a reaction to......
Just looked it up lol! I'm sure I had read it somewhere its just dated info now x
Thankfully he has SUPER Mild reactions so it is very not serious. I carry an epi, but his allergist is pretty sure I will never ever have to use it!
Anyway, the allergist is a professor at the very very big medical school here and said that if they knew avoiding foods during pregnancy would prevent allergies...no one would have allergies.
There is a lot of unknown with food allergies. I will say, as a STM with a son with a nut allergy...I have already had 5 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches since my BFP. And I plan on eating PB cookies. And Reese cups. And anything else I like.
Good luck!
The reply at 4:46 is on par with current recommendations. I have a DD with nut allergies, among others (egg and milk) and I ate peanuts, eggs and a lot of milk during that pregnancy. So when I was pg with #2, I did a lot of research. At that time in 2006, they recommended I still eat milk and egg for the sake of important nutrients, but to avoid the nuts. Clearly our genetics set us up for allergies (DH has excema and used to be allergic to eggs) so I wanted to do what I could. I avoided nuts for the pg. Luckily, my DS does not have allergies. I'll also avoid nuts for the pg, just b/c we did get a good outcome, but I'll never really know. I also know there's research about c/s vs. vaginal births, formula and breastfeeding around allergies, and no doubt a lot of luck/randomness. You can find every combination of what some moms did and what result they get. The docs just don't know.
