Also, nbsp;did you know that walmart gives to these same types of groups? To prevent LGBT from adopting their own children and they in fact donate to anti gay religious orgs as well. Go ahead and turn up your nose. You chose to pick on chickfila because they openly made a statement about their beliefs and then make a general statement like you don't "support" companies you know support things you agree with but you ignorantly have not done your research on it either. But now that you know are you going to stop shopping at walmart too?
Actually we don't shop at Walmart because of their impact on local small businesses and other reasons. But that certainly fuels my fire even more, so thanks for the info!!! And like I said, I've NEVER eaten chickfika; my dislike started long before this most recent disgustingness.

Well so do BabiesRUs and ToysRus and Exxon Mobil and Kellogs and Keebler Dominoes and Cinemark, do I need to continue? The list goes on. Like I say and continue to have a stance. Your ignorance is not an excuse for you to pick and choose because of what you know and don't. Do some research and then perhaps we can level.

This is exactly what I mean. No one has any idea what they are supporting but are really quick to hop on the bandwagon and blast a company when in reality they are being hypocrites by supporting other companies doing the EXACT same thing.

    imageimageimageimage

  • Just like we try to buy products that aren't tested on animals, we try not to support companies with gross views. If that makes me a hypocrite, it is what it is. I can take your flames on this, it really doesn't bother me. I'm not going to give up because I can't keep track of all the gross companies out there.

Me neither. I held off as long as I could, but when my kid started hurling every time the car moved from being backwards I turned her. She was probably around the same age.

No that is not what I am saying at all. I know it is not nearly possible to know every company that has opposing views from what another person has, however there are several very large companies that I named that a simple google search would probably pull up. To me a lot of people boycotted chick-fil-a because they openly said they didn't support LGBT which was really no big shock. People hop on the bandwagon of non support and they really have no idea what in fact they really are/are not supporting. Not referring to the PP but many people "say" they are against x,y or z but really have no idea because they haven't done any type of research to substantiate what it is they are actually protesting. If you are going to boycott something know it. Not just what is placed in front of your eyes.

I'm more judgmental of women who put their infant car seats on the top part of a shopping cart. Forward-facing your kid at this point isn't breaking the law.

I'm going to rear-face DD as long as possible, and by that I mean as long as it works for me and DD, not to the maximum weight/height for her seat. It sounds like it wasn't still possible for you.  I have a mirror on the headrest for DD to look at and a toy hanging for the oh sh*t bar (i'm sure that has a real name) and she stays pretty happy with that. Some women would judge me for that b/c it's a projectile risk in the event of an accident.

I have more of a problem with parents who turn their LO around at 12 months because "it's "just what you do" One of my SIL thinks I am crazy for keeping DD rf as long as possible. I told her my reasoning behind it and she still thinks it's ridiculous! Her words "Turning them around at 1 year is just what you do, it's just cruel to keep them rf for longer" If DD puked every time we got in the car and turning her around fixed it, I would be all over it. Luckily though, that's not the case for us.

Now I am even more intrigued and I love to debate, clearly Big Smile, so come on!

I don't think it is really a debate issue as much as it is people will think I am mean.

It has to do with a person that I and some other people had a tiff with a few weeks ago.

  • I know I'm really late to the conversation, but boycotting franchises bugs the crap out of me. It costs people who have nothing to do with the views of the CEO, or decisions about corporate donations, their livelihood.

It's the same as people boycotting BP after the oil spill. Congrats. You cost ma and pa down the street the income they need to get by, to do what? Like BP gave a flying fluck.

Just like the jackass baseball writers who refuse to vote for people on the principle that no one should've a first ballot HOFer, and are now costing the small businesses in Cooperstown the income they rely on to get by year to year. Don't vote for the steroid guys, that's fine, but get your heads out of your asses and recognize the unintended consequences of your actions.

Chick fil a is actually a great company, overall. Now, I'm a big proponent of gay rights and I wasn't thrilled by that whole debacle. But they are a very southern company and practice a lot of the good southern values. They are quite hospitable, service wise. They take great care of their corporate employees. And the reason they are slow to expand is because they won't allow their franchises to be owned by folks who haven't worked a couple years in a restaurant, because they want to ensure the continuance of their culture.

Amarissa, you're clearly never going to understand what the boycott is about, and to those of us who have a clue, you're just repeatedly making yourself sound ignorant.
It is not about Dan Cathy saying he is opposed to gay marriage. Freedom of speech is his constitutional right. He can believe in whatever he wants.
It's about the fact that when we spend money at his restaurants, that money is then given to hate groups that fund legislation to have homosexuals murdered in Uganda. It is used to attempt to deny and revoke the rights of people here in the US. It is used to send middle school aged children to camps to have the gay scared out of them.
Since you claim to be bisexual, how would you feel if the person that you fell in love with and chose as a life partner was a woman, and because of that you were not allowed to marry or have children, thanks to hate groups that your chicken money funded?

I know exactly what a boycott is did you read all of the posts or just 1? I have been in a rship with someone I wanted to be with and couldn't marry so I know exactly what it "feels like" however you boycott a store because they got caught with their pants down but then go down the street and support another that makes twice the revenue? Ok, then a follow up question. Where do you draw the line of picking which companies to research? And how many to research? And the things that are boycott-worthy and which ones aren't? And who gets to draw the line?

FTR, I don't give a flying hoot about chick-fil-a. I've never been to one, and there aren't any franchises anywhere near me, so my question has zero to do with chick-fil-a. I just find this "logic" in what people can and can't boycott to be extremely arbitrary.

To be honest I don't care what a person chooses to boycott or not. I guess bottom line is that no one really has any idea what they are supporting so really they are defeating the purpose because you don't support 1 but support 5 others. Chickfila you spend what 1020 dollars. People spend hundreds at Walmart and other popular stores just like it.

  • I judge pregnant women who drink alcohol - even the "just a sip" and the "half a glass" drinks. There's no study that's been able to prove how much or how little alcohol causes FAS and other problems, so why risk it? You wouldn't give your newborn "just a sip" or "half a glass" of an alcoholic drink, so why is it ok when you're pregnant??

I judge pregnant women who drink alcohol - even the "just a sip" and the "half a glass" drinks. There's no study that's been able to prove how much or how little alcohol causes FAS and other problems, so why risk it? You wouldn't give your newborn "just a sip" or "half a glass" of an alcoholic drink, so why is it ok when you're pregnant??

On this note I judge mothers who BF and don't pump before they have a drink.

    How long did you BF?

Alcohol metabolizes out of BM at the same rate it does blood. So this is not always necessary.

ETA I assume you mean after they drink.

I never drank while pumping, mainly because I am not much of a drinker, BUT from what I understand alcohol leaves your breast milk when it leaves your system...

I think the rule of thumb is, If you're sober enough to drive, you're good to feed.

No I meant before they drink, I know it metabolizes out but if they are at their house and have some friends over and mom has a drink or has a glass of wine with dinner but didn't pump first and baby wakes up and is hungry, then what?

Ooooooh. I guess I'd never thought about that. Seems obvious, but yeah. I suppose I can get on board with that.

How long did you BF? You seem ignorant to how it works.

Huh? How does that make me ignorant?
