Brand new jeans have a burnt smell?

I just recently bought some new premium skinny jeans and they have the WORST burnt smell. I have washed them a couple times (and dried) but the smell will not go away. None of the other clothes that were washed or dried in the same loads smell like this.

Please tell me how I can get this smell out!

Re: Brand new jeans have a burnt smell?

  • I would try washing only the jeans in warm water with a cup of vinegar.

  • I bought a cheap pair of American Eagle jeans when my pre-pregnancy jeans still didn't fit. They had a horrible smell and I thought it was just because they were cheap. I mentioned it to a friend and she had the same experience. It turned out that there was a problem with the dye & we were able to exchange the jeans. Not sure if this is what's happening with yours but just thought I'd mention it. You may want to call the store to see if there's been other complaints.

  • Send them to the dry cleaners!!!  The oxydizers along with "ozone treatment" that they use should get the smell lifted.

Vinegar is also a good route to start with..  You could wash them with some baking soda as well...

Here's a link from the Florida Extension Service... Lots of good tips...  https://disaster.ifas.ufl.edu/pdfs/chap13/d13-17.pdf

  • Years ago I had a pair like that.  I wore them to work, not realizing they smelled.  One of the VIPs in the room asked "What is that smell?"  I later realized it was me.  I washed them numerous times to no avail.  Take them back!!!  I ended up throwing mine away b/c I kept them for such a long time and didn't think I could return them.  :(

The only place they'd work well is a bonfire!!  No one would notice there.  hahaha
