We have a 3 year old DS so we aren't sure what to do here with our 3 day old baby girl.
When changing her diaper, we noticed white, dried "discharge" in the folds of her labia.
The nurses did say it was normal for her to have a creamy discharge and we've also wiped that away fresh.
I just don't know if and how we should clean this area today when we give her first sponge bath.
Thank you. Any other girlspecific tips also welcomed!
Re: If you have a baby girl cleaning down there.
My DD gets that too. It's more ackward to clean a girls diaper area than a boys. IMO. I just spread the labia during baths or diaper changes and gently wipe it away. Always make sure to wipe from front to back so no bacteria get into her urethra, which could cause UTIs.

I only wipe between the labia if stool has gotten in there, otherwise I gently wipe along the top, but don't spread them and clean the white out. It's protective to the vagina and you don't want to wipe it away regularly.
I clean it better in the bath, but still, not vigorously.
This exactly. I only spread her bits after a particularly nasty poop. The rest of the time I wipe down the top and all of the creases by her legs and of course her booty crack. As everyone else said, always front to back.
In the bath I just sit her in the tub and use the washcloth to trickle water over her labia. I wash the rest of her with soap.
