Re: fyi rock n play recall

  • I think as long as you keep it clean it shouldn't be a problem. I saw this on the news, and was kind of confused about how mold would even start to accumulate..... I washed ours at least every1-2 weeks, and while it's washing, the underneath gets aired out (not that it ever really got wet enough to grow mold).

I got worried b/c I really want to use our for Charlotte when she comes in June!

We wash ours regularly also, but we actually got mold growth on the straps. Not really sure how that happened. I just wiped them down with a bleach & water solution.

And as far as not being able to use them, it's not a "stop use" kind of recall. I read that if your RnP fits the recall description (or whatever the terminology is), then FP will provide you with directions on how to clean it. I don't know why they can't just post those instructions along with the recall notification. Anyways, you should be good to go.

  • It's amazing how baby spit that you didn't know was there can get everywhere and cause mold.

this... I read the article yesterday, and they are just saying how to properly clean it each time...

granted.... we no longer use ours, and its already packed away for baby #2.... but I know when I take it out, I will be cleaning the crap out of it!

Same here.  We wash ours and still got mold in the bottom on the layer of material directly over the plastic (not removable) by where her butt went.

Really?!! Oh my goodness! I need to check mine just to be sure then? Was it pretty noticable mold growth?

Yeah it was actually pretty noticeable. It just looked like brown spots all over the strap. They weren't huge, but there was enough of them that made it noticeable. The first time I saw it (and before I had ever even heard about RnP and mold growth), I told DH that I swore it looked like there was mold on the straps. He told me that was ridiculous that they were just stained (with what IDK since she was only on formula at the time), and we went on with life. But then I read on here a couple of months ago about mold growth. That's when I wiped it down with bleach/water. So I wasn't really surprised by this recall.
