Solids for an 8 month old?

Hi! My LO is 8 months.  We started giving him solids at 6 months.  He's had oatmeal, many veggies and fruit and just tried pureed rice and chicken this week.  He's liked everything he's tried and no allergies so far. Any suggestions on what other foods I can try?  Is he ok to try yogurt at this point?  If so, what kind?

Also, he has only had pureed foods.  He has 2 teeth and 2 more look like they are about to pop.  Is he ready for chunky foods?  (Pieces of banana, etc)

Any suggestions on things you've tried would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • I would think it's time to start offering finger foods.

ETA: Fresh Mozz, butter sauteed veggies, steak or chicken or pork diced small, banana slices, mixed veggies, toast with butter or some kind of spread...

  • He's tried a few puffs.  He's also gnawed on cucumber slices and celery stalks.    Any suggestions on finger foods? Thanks!
  • This is a huge help, thanks!

Soft finger foods should be fine, i.e. bananas, potatos, pasta, avocado, etc. I waited to give my LO yogurt until 9 months based on the docs recommendation but not everyone waits. It makes his poo a little looser (sorry, gross) but he seems to love it. I give him YoYo organic yogurt which is meant for babies and is made from whole milk.

By 9 months old, our pedi said he should be eating all the foods we are and to move away from baby food all together so that's what we are doing. He has 2 bottom teeth and 2 top teeth but he can pretty much mash anything up!

    Yup I second this.

  • At eight months I started giving my guy what we eat for dinner.  I chop it up and he devours it.  My pediatrician just said to let him figure out finger foods himself first.  if he's advanced enough to get it in his mouth he's advanced enough to chew it.  There is nothing my kid doesn't eat now.
