LOPES"" financial aid Q's

I am in a rush to get all my ducks in a row this week to start college next week. Or at least to get a class or two because most are filled up already.

Any who, I was approved for  financial aid and a penn grant.

Now I am totally confused as I was told one could use financial aid to cover childcare and traveling expenses but it seems that the money goes straight to the college.

I am confused on how it all works, could you give me some insight?

Or anyone else>?

Re: LOPES"" financial aid Q's

  • The college receives the money and pays your tuition bill. If you aren't full time the amount you receive will be less than your maximum allowance, it's prorated by credit. If you semester is about to start you will probably receive your refund check of anything over and above your tuition cost in about a month and can use that money for whatever you need. Are you using the childcare at the college? I know our childcare here is super cheap and the program is really well run. You could ask if financial aid can pay the daycare bill if it's through the college or if you have to wait for the refund. We also provide emergency 0 interest loans for the amount of your refund that you pay back when you receive your refund. You could ask financial aid and (I would ask both because financial aid might not know about it) your college/student life office if they offer that.

The college daycare only takes 2 year olds and up. Levi is in the waiting list for summer 2013.

I have to go tomorrow and do placement tests so I will see if they can give me some answers on the amount Iwould get etc.
