Gallbladders- talk to me
I've been having some issues that I finally went to the dr for and she is pretty sure that it's my gallbladder. (And after doing some research of my own I have to agree) The last couple times I've had 'attacks' it has been horrible. I don't know how I let it go on for as long as I did before going in. Anyway, I've got blood work I need to have done and an ultrasound is being scheduled.
I know there are more than a few ladies that have had gallbladder issues and had them removed so maybe you could answer some questions. What was your experience while you were getting attacks and what led to your dr recommending removal?
Re: Gallbladders- talk to me
From what I have heard, a gallbladder attack feels like a you are being stabbed in the right upper quadrant of your abdomen. It is worse after you ear hot, spicy, fries or fatty foods. You can help control your attacks by eating bland foods.
Unfortunately once you start having problems you usually have to have it removed. The good news is that is a
super easy surgery with a quick
recovery. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
Edit: Sorry! Wrong board!
my attacks sounded like the pp which also included vomiting and or crapping a ton. they were horrific. i went to the ER twice and finally the last visit they did an ultrasound to see that i had gallstones.
I had the surgey many years before i had the kids bit it wasnt bad at all. but i was able to be on pain meds and rest all day.
I hope you get your answers and good luck.
at 18 weeks pregnant I got hit with the stabbing pain. Told my DH that I think I needed to go to the hospital to which he got freaked since I don't go to the Dr willingly. They did an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't LO and found lots of gallstones. Had a 2nd attack at 30 weeks pregnant that was less pain but more of the vomiting/ nausea stuff. Now I'm at 32 weeks pregnant and hoping I can avoid all attacks from here on out. 6 weeks after my c-section they'll do the surgery to remove it. They have to wait for my uterus to shrink to make it safer for me. Between the low fat diet for the gall bladder and the low carb diet for the GD I've only gained 2 lbs this pregnancy so technically I've probably lost about 10 lbs. Silver lining? lol
ETA: I'm a dork and I keep giggling at the subject line because I keep reading it as Gallbladders are talking to you. I'm glad mine isn't talking to me.... I'd tell it to STFU for being mean to me.
I had an attack that sent me to the ER and it turned out a stone was out in the common bile duct blocking the ducts to my liver and pancreas causing some liver failure and pancreatitis. So mine came out that day and if that stone hadn't passed I would have had to have another procedure where they went up or down from the inside to pull the stone out of the duct. Luckily it passed on it's own.
Haven't had any problems since it came out. Have not had to change my diet (although a few weeks after that I went dairy-soy free so who knows what'll happen when I reintroduce dairy).
I was down and out for about 2 days, still rough for another week, and it was 2-3 weeks until I was allowed to lift Jacob and the scars stopped itching/stinging.
My situation has been slightly different from the other posters. First off, I've been pretty miserable for about 2 months straight-not fun, but I don't have much physical pain. I have Horrible nausea, constipation, and constant stomach aches. My ultra sound showed that I don't have any stones. They then did a Hydascan. For that, they injected me with some radio active stuff (through an IV) then took xrays every 10 minutes to watch the dye in my gallbladder. Then after an hour, they injected me with more stuff to make the gallbladder contract (I felt pretty crappy with this). They took more xrays for the next hour. My tests came back that my gallbladder is only performing at 6% so I meet with a surgeon on the 22nd, and I'm pretty sure he'll want to take it out. And at this point, I'm up for anything!
For the nausea, the doc gave me Zolfran which really has helped and then I found that gingerbread cookies help too! My mom has been making them for me and I think we're on our 4th batch! My diet has been pretty bland and I've lost about 10 pounds (the only upside! But now my clothes don't fit!)
Good luck!
