Infertility

IVF#3 = BFP!!!

I know that many of you don't know me.  I posted here quite a bit until my second IVF failed in May.  I gave myself a break from TTTC board obsession!  But, I always found the girls on this board to be very helpful and pray that each of you here now become mothers very soon.

Looks like the 3rd time was finally the charm for me.  I've been testing positive since Wednesday on HPTs and my first beta came back yesterday at 393!!  Needless to say, DH and I are over the moon.

My full story for any of you who may be interested can be found in my blog below.  But, to provide a little information, I began TTC 22 cycles ago.  I began seeing an RE after it was determined my DH had sperm issues.  My old RE, which while very nice, never did a good job at working me up for my infertility issues, despite my asking for laparoscopies, hysteroscopies, etc.  I did have an HSG which showed clear tubes, but that was pretty much it in terms of diagnostic testing which left me with an unexplained infertility diagnosis.  It seemed like he just wanted to push me into procedures with no good idea as to why we were failing in the first place.  So, after failing 2 IUIs and 2 IVFs with him, I decided to switch clinics.  Especially after DE came out of his mouth and imo, how could he possibly say that without having done extensive infertility testing?

I consulted with Dr. Schoolcraft at CCRM back in June and I must say it was the best decision DH and I ever made.  We went out to Denver for the one day full work-up in July, which consisted of sperm antibody testing, Doppler flow studies of my ovaries, u/s, hysteroscopy, and lots of communicable and chromosomal blood testing.  I was in awe of just how good and on top things they were immediately.  When my day 3 b/w came back, I was diagnosed with PCO-like ovaries and placed on Metformin.  Also, my thyroid level came back slightly elevated and while most doctors wouldn?t have placed me on therapy, Dr. Sch felt it was just outside the range of normal for TTC and pg folks that he suggested I go on low dose Synthroid.  I?m still on both Met and Synthroid and I believe both have made a difference.  Finally, he also strongly believes in the beta 3-integrin endometrial biopsy, which would show if I had the protein required for implantation to occur.  I do have it (which is good), however, I?m so glad we tested b/c to make it all the way to ER, ET, etc again and not have embies implant for something such as a missing protein would?ve really weighed on me heavily.

Finally, Dr. Sch suggested we perform Microarray genetic testing on all 5/6-day blasts that made it in his lab.  First of all, after IVF#1 and IVF#2 we had a total of 50 eggs and 25 embies, but no blasts at all.  DH and I didn?t think we could make blasts.  Dr. Sch felt we had a strong chance of getting embies to blasts in CCRM?s lab.  We again trusted him and sure enough, we had 6 blasts to send off for testing in September!  Microarray is similar to CGH testing in that all 23 chromosomes are tested vs. standard PGD where only 9 chromosomes are tested.  Another difference is that Microarray and CGH only take the biopsy from the future placental cells, not the embryo itself.  Only a few clinics in the U.S. do these types of genetic testing, as the majority only offer standard PGD. The waiting is the hardest part with this type of genetic testing-took us 6 weeks and 2 days!  But we had 2 normals and 1 no result available for transfer.

Our FET was Nov. 28 and we transferred 2 genetically normal BOYS back to my uterus!  5 days later I decided to POAS and saw 2 lines for the first time in my life!  I owe everything to CCRM and their magic lab.  We got answers at CCRM.  That?s what we wanted and why we switched!

Again, good luck to each and every one of you!

  • I am SO thrilled for you Jill!!!!!!!!! I am one IVF cycle away from CCRM. We did our initial consult with Dr. Minjarez, and if our Jan. cycle goes awry, then we will head to CCRM in 2009. We, of course, are hoping we won't have to worry about this step, but it is so nice to hear everything they did for you. I really feel like they are such a magical clinic.

Like I said, I hope not to have to go that route, but I love hearing the success stories of the girls who did because I may be heading there myself.

Thanks for sharing everything and good luck!!!!!!!! I really hope you've got 2 perfect little boys waiting for you. :):)
