Pinterest

Anyone else feel like a slacker mom when they browse the kids section?  So many of the memento ideas, play ideas, bday party ideas, etc. seem near impossible ( and pricey) to me.  I'm trying to convince myself that these pins are from people who have grown children and are posting about what they would have done, because really?  Who has time for that ***?

Re: Pinterest

  • I love Pinterest and have done many things from there. DH and I are making a play kitchen out of upcycled nightstands. So far the stove/oven is done and it is pretty good if I say so myself. I also make at least one recipe from there a week for dinner, typically in the crockpot.

  • Um, I love pinterest. But, that being said, I take ideas off of it and use it more as a tool for ideas. I've pinned a gazillion things but never have made most of the recipes. I read them, pin them, maybe read them again, then wing most of my cooking. I have gotten quite a few ideas that I've used for Liam's preschool though. We're doing a pinterest craft for his winter party and I've made class treats using pinterest recipes 3 or 4 times.

The recipes are really great, I've made a couple as well.  Some of the crafts are really neat and easily do-able.

I was looking for nursery inspiration when I was browsing the other day and that's what got overwhelming.  Also, the extreme lack of places to buy things around here adds fuel to the frustration fire!

I wish we could make the play kitchen from an old entertainment unit, but there would be no where to put it anyway!

I'm sure yours will turn out great, sounds like it will :)

  • I really like my Pinterest boards. I try to keep them relatively organized and I use most of the stuff. I think the best thing I found so far is the Kiddie Car Wash. We made it for Jake's 1st birthday party and it was a huge hit. It was fun to make and the kids had a blast going through "Hurricane Alley" to get cleaned up after their scavenger hunt. It was really cute.

I love Pinterest but for me, I'm not doing anything I wasn't already doing, my links are just organized. I already liked crafts and sewing, I just trolled blogs looking for ideas. Same for new recipes, and other ideas. You can't let yourself feel guilty b/c you don't do the same stuff other moms do. If you aren't crafty or you aren't a cook, you aren't. No big deal. There are lots of things you are that they aren't. I think it's silly to let a social media site make you feel guilty about what kind of mom you are.

Same here, I just use it to organize sites that I would have had bookmarked in really messy haphazard folders on my laptop.  Mainly recipes and some baby-related stuff

But OP, you shouldn't feel bad about the things that you do or don't do because of Pinterest.  Honestly, while I love looking at crafts and DIYs on there, I am simply not crafty.  I've tried to be, but it's just not my thing.  But, I don't feel bad because DD's nursery doesn't have a handmade mobile and refurbished furniture to match a theme.  If I tried to make something like that it would probably look awful LOL.  But that doesn't mean that I am less of a mom to her.  Don't sweat it!

I'm so not crafty either.  A few things here or there sure, but in general, nope!  Cooking and baking?  Absolutely.  DD "helped" me make apple crisp this week-end.  Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't sit in front of the screen crying because I can't/won't use these ideas, it's more that I just wish I could sometimes.  I genuinely like them and more power to those who can take an idea and run with it!
