Babysitter Pay Question

As a FTM I am completely lost on this one. How much do you pay your babysitter?

Just for clarification I am talking more about an evening or weekend babysitter when you want to go out with your spouse, friends, etc.

I used to babysit when I was younger but I cannot remember for the life of me what they use to pay me and then on top of that I was under 18. The girl that we are going to have babysit for us is 18 and has been a nanny before so I am not sure whether we would pay her more because of that or not.

Any advice would be very appreciated. TIA.

Our babysitter charges 8/hr. I've heard of sitters charging higher.

I would ask her what she charges so you aren't surprised if she asks for a different amount than you expected.

I think this varies by where you live. For a younger sitter, we "pay the grade" so a 9th grader gets $9/hr, 12th grader gets $12/hr. Our older sitter (she has 2 grown kids in college) we pay $15/hr for 2 kids. We will probably now have to pay her more since we have a third! Ask around where you live. Good luck!

Personally, I would never trust a high school student with my kiddos until they are quite a bit older, but that's just me.

I use a college student and I pay her around $10/hr for my two kids. I tend to round up a bit, too, to be on the generous side because I always want her to SAY YES when I ask her to sit!! She's responsible, drives herself to/from our house & my 4 year old loves her, so I am willing to pay whatever it takes to keep her.

(example: if we're gone 3.5 hrs, I pay her $40)

Check what the going rate is in your area on sittercity. Most people start charging around 20/hr here.

Around 16 years old, I'd pay 10 an hour. For 18 and up, I'd pay 15 since its a demanding baby. For someone with a baby STTN I'd pay 12.

I was a nanny and was paid 11 an hour for two kids ages 5 and 7. For day to day getting to/from practices and such it wasn't enough also cooked and cleaned up after kids but for babysitting for an evening, I feel like that would be acceptable, especially for one baby.
