PT regression because she LIKES to see it

DD1 has been PT since she was a little over 2. Beyond the occasional accident it was super easy for her.

The last couple of weeks she's been having accidents all over the show. At first I thought, "oh she was too busy playing" but we've gotten to the point of 2 or 3 accidents a day." (just with peeing) So I put her in a nappy. Then she wanted to poo in her nappy.

We've talked about it a bit and there seems to be 2 different things going on a) she likes to see the puddle she makes on the floor. b) she wants to be a "baby" like her little sister. So I'm thinking a bit of jealousy.

So we've talked about how great being a big girl is because you get to do x y and z. I've also tried really praising the use of the toilet (because it had become a non-event as she was so good it so quickly and I took it for granted) And I've really tried increasing the snuggles with her, because I think she sees the snuggles and tickles I give DD2 when I change her, and wants some of that attention.

I think I'm seeing some improvement.

We've gone back to underwear.

Would a reward chart be a good option in this sort of situation? If so what's the best way to go about this?

Also she starts daycare in 2 weeks, so I'd like this to be sorted, but also wondered if there could be some anxiety there?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

  • Do you think that it's something she could have learned at daycare?  We have had problems with potty training and day care.  Mine has also peed on the floor when he "felt" like it basically because he was mad at me... so could be what you said about potential anxiety.  Also, we had major regression after birth of DS2 so we had to put him back in diapers for awhile.  Finally we had to bribe him with cookies which is not recommended but what felt like our only choice :-(

Definitely not learnt at daycare, as she hasn't spent anytime there yet.

I could absolutely see us heading the way of bribery. I just feel so frustrated when it seems so deliberate.
