Natural Birth

Anyone planning a home birth?

I had an amazing home birth experience when I had my daughter 2 years ago, and I'm excited to hopefully have this baby at home as well.  It was wonderful to be able to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.  No stupid hospital rules and no unnecessary interventions.  I hope this experience is just as good as the first!

Re: Anyone planning a home birth?

  • I attempted a home birth with my daughter almost 2 years ago and had to transfer at the last minute. I did LOVE being home for the 25 hours that I was though! We were planning another home birth until recently when my husband's insurance switched so that a hospital birth would be 100% covered so we are switching to a hospital birth because of the cost factor. Good luck with your home birth though!!!! I bet it will be amazing!

  • We're thinking about having a home birth, or labouring until I have to absolutely have to go to the hospital. I have to do some more reading and ask my midwife some questions on Monday when I see her.

  • I really wanted a home birth, but DH was not comfortable with that. So we compromised and going to a birth center. It's peaceful and feels/looks like a home. Hopefully next time, I'll be able to have a home birth.

  • Planning a HB here! I had Ds in a hospital with OBs, so this is a completely different experience working with my MW. Different in a good way! Hoping all goes well and I can say proudly I'm a HB mama :)

  • I had my little guy at home 3 weeks ago, and it was an awesome experience.  It's expensive, but worth every penny to me, and if I have another child, it will be my hope and plan again to have him/her at home as well.  GL to you!

  • We are! As long as I don't have prenatal complications, even though it will be more expensive, we're having a home birth. As a doula, childbirth educator and LC this is very important to me and I'm looking forward to it.

  • We are!  I'm actually switching from an OB to a midwife this month.  (:  Of course so long as all goes well.  Which, if it's anything like my others, we'll be just fine.

  • Planning on it.  I cant find a registered midwife who has room for me but there is a unregistered birth attendant who i'm thinking about, that would cost a lot though. I'll figure something out.

  • I planned one with DD but she was too early.  We are trying again this time and really hope to have that experience.

  • Having a home birth with our first!  I'm very happy to have a supportive husband and community.  Just got my blood work done today, so here's hoping there isn't any preliminary complications to prevent it!

I'm also afraid of the hospital.  Especially because the only hospital close by is a catholic hospital and kind of backwards in their practices.  They refuse to tell you the gender of your baby even if you do want to know, apparently because they are afraid of you aborting your baby if it's not the gender you want....  Plus I just don't want a nurse/ob/doctor telling me what to do and pressuring me with my birth.  I am happy to know that if I was transferred last minute my midwife would come with me and deliver the baby.  But no--I would never seek care from a hospital without a trusted midwife present.

  • I'm having a water birth here at home and couldn't be more excited! In addition to the more important reason (less intervention, better bonding experience), it's really comforting that I will be around all of my stuff.  If i'm laboring and need new clothes or want to wash my hair with my own shampoo, I don't have to worry about packing it and taking it with me.  I believe it will be a really special experience.
