This is my second pregnancy. I am due 8/13. The first few weeks I felt amazing -and then the morning sickness hit. However, this time around it got worse, and worse, and worse. With my first pregnancy, I had the normal nausea, dry heave, aversion to smells but I was still able to eat and drink in small amounts. This time around has been AWFUL. I am down 13 pounds in two weeks, can barely sip water without vomiting, and have been in the ER twice for fluids because I am so dehydrated.
I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (made famous recently by the princess in England who also has it). It is an extreme form of morning sickness that apparently strikes 2% of pregnant women. I have been on every anti-nausea medicine safe in pregnancy and they havent put a dent in my symptoms. I finally gave in and got what is called a Zofran pump last night. A nurse came to my house and taught me how to use it. It functions in a similar fashion to an insulin pump. I have a port that I have inserted into my abdomen that I move and change every day. This port is attached to a machine which administers a constant stream of Zofran. So far, I am able to drink water again and can make it through a conversation without gagging. I am hoping that this helps me get through this illness! I am posting this here to see if anyone else is going through this and to tell anyone who is losing weight/suffering like I have been to discuss this option with their doctor. I hope everyone else is feeling ok and that we all get beyond this phase soon!
Re: Anyone else with Hyperemesis Gravidarum?
Oh my. I will not complain about mine any more. I though mine was bad, but I am just normal sick I think. I am so sorry to hear this. Good news is I have a friend who was diagnosed with this in both of her pregnancys. She said the pump saved her. It really made her feel mostly normal. Both of her babies were born healthy
Sorry that was totally rambling, and I can't make it better

I had a moderate case of HG with my DS and currently a mild case with baby #2. I also tried every med available during my 1st pregnancy and ended up taking Zofran from week 8-40. Good news is my son was born perfectly healthy at 40 weeks. I remember feeling helpless and at many times hopeless and alone. I didn't know where to find other women who would understand what I was going through. Unless you have experienced HG you can't begin to understand. You should check out helpher.org it's a great resource with a lot of info and support for HG women, their families, and friends.
I pray that your pregnancy improves!
