Hey ladies. I'm trying to make my postpartum mama cloth. I normally use a Diva cup so I do have some liners, but not a lot. How many huge pads do you all think I should make? I have 2 shells(PUL with snaps for under underwear) that I made to snap some inserts into and I have 9 inserts for those, 6 still in the works but cut out. They are 2 layers of bamboo fleece and two layers of zorb. Do that sound absorbent enough?! I also have an ice pack "pocket" in the shells. I"m thinking of making some more without the shells since those are really more for right after when everything is really heavy to protect clothes. But how many should I make? Even if I have to wash every day I'm okay with that. I just don't want to make too few for one day and not have enough but don't want to make too many since this is probably our last baby. Thoughts?!

I have 5 or 6 for heavy bleeding and about 12 or so for regular bleeding. I also cloth diaper and we wash dipes and pads daily, so I don't really need that many.
To be honest, my favorite thing to use is a few prefold diapers in my undies. It works better than the pads overnight. I also wear them when I am at home.
AtLdesi I'm using the bigger one from this site https://www.mammacandoit.com/Mama-Pat...d-Pattern.html It's only a $6 pattern. But there is also a good one that is pretty similar but not a snap in insert(I REALLY like that idea too!) But this one looks pretty good too and it's $6.50 https://verybaby.com/ecom-prodshow/babymoon.html. I might buy that one too for the smaller pattern. They are pretty similar though.
I DO have some small prefolds. Maybe those will be my backups I guess if I run out. Thanks!
Honestly, I would just go simple if you will not use them again. With DS2, I just used an infant size prefold, trifolded. Those first few days, I was changing them enough and just around the house so I didn't worry about water-proof backing. Even out and about after the first few days, using that did just fine. For cooling, I used frozen corn or peas double-bagged in a small zip lock and then placed inside a clean, black cotton sock. I planned to make my own, but never got around to it. I do have reusable pads that are like 9 layers of flannel + PUL, but I bought those on Etsy and I don't know much else about their construction.

I'm not going to make a whole lot more. Do people buy used mama cloth?! I have no clue. I might just keep them around and use them as inserts for small and newborn diapers! LOL. At least then they'll be useful and hopefully they are pretty absorbent too.
Thanks for this info! Much appreciated - and will keep it in mind. I am on the fence about making them, esp. b/c I'm normally a Diva Cup user and would likely not use cloth pads much after the post-partum phase . . . but I have so much leftover material, including PUL, microfleece, and absorbent stuff (Zorb/bamboo-cotton velour) from diaper sewing that I was toying with the idea. The prefold idea is frankly pretty tempting!!!
